As a result were looking for people who have the passion and drive to be involved with major geotechnical projects across a range of sectors: Rail, Highways, Utilities and Nuclear.As part of our strategy for growth and to further develop our capabilities in the tunnelling sector, Jacobs are looking to hire a Principal Tunnel Engineer to be based in our London Office.Reporting to one of the team leads within the Tunnels discipline this individual will be a key resource in project and work package delivery with the ability to work with minimal supervision for a range of internal and external clients. Our tunnels team focusses on a range of small to large scale projects from pipejack undercrossings of railway infrastructure to complex underground caverns utilising techniques from empirical methods to 3D FE analyses. Work undertaken can be structural and/or geotechnical in nature.Sector Experience - The candidate will have demonstrable experience in leading work packages in the tunnelling sector either in the UK or abroad. Ideally this should cover a wide range of sectors with experience in several or all the following areas: Metro, Highway, Heavy Rail, Utility and Conveyance. Experience in hard rock tunnelling is highly desirable.Innovative - Jacobs promotes innovation at all levels in the organisation. An ideal candidate would be someone who is naturally solutions orientated, and where appropriate is not inhibited by existing standards or conventional thinking and is willing to push boundaries where viable alternatives have been identified.Job responsibilitiesThe candidate will work within project teams and will report to team leaders and project managers. The priorities of the role are likely to include:• Provide tunnelling leadership and direction in multi-disciplinary project teams• Planning and management of project and proposal team resources• Use technological advances to improve quality, results and efficiencyQualificationsEssential:• Demonstrable expertise in segmental and SCL lining design• Rock tunnelling experience is preferable• MICE Chartered Engineer status• Proven ability interfacing directly with clients and building lasting relationships with them.
