Job Description

IHS Markit Chemical is seeking a Consultant who will be responsible for market analysis and coverage of the Methanol markets across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Indian Subcontinent, in support of all IHS Markit Chemical Market Advisory Services dedicated to these important markets. Responsibilities shall include:

  • Provide written market analysis and reasoned forecasts for required weekly, monthly and annual Market Advisory Services
  • Regular travel across the region to visit existing clients and cultivate relationships with potential clients
  • Support existing clients with a focus on increasing IHS Markit Chemicals exposure inside client organizations
  • Give market presentations at client meetings as well as IHS Markit Chemical and industry conferences
  • Provide support to the Business Consulting Group for single client project work as required
  • Maintenance of short- and long-term price and supply/demand models
  • Update of quarterly supply/demand balances in cooperation with the global methanol team, regular review of long-term supply/demand balances used in published world analyses and to meet the requirements of the IHS Markit Chemical Business Consulting Group
  • Maintenance of econometric models which determine production cash costs and margins
  • Construction of robust and defendable short term and long-term price and margin forecasts
  • Updates to the capacity database
  • Continuous proactive marketing of related Market Advisory Services to meet annual growth goals
  • Sales calls to be worked in with client visit program where possible
  • Develop strong connection to relevant industry associations
    • Commercial experience (technical would be a bonus) in the Methanol industry which could include:
  • A thorough understanding of the Methanol industry, and the key commercial drivers within the marketplace
  • 8+ years of experience gained in manufacturing, purchasing or trading activities in Methanol industry
  • A robust knowledge of product contract mechanisms, price and margin drivers and production processes
  • An extensive network of established marketplace contacts
  • A chemistry/chemical engineering degree is an ideal qualification but otherwise a good technical, business or commercial degree will be accepted
  • Must have excellent written / spoken English
  • Must have strong interpersonal, analytical and communication skills (written and oral) and strong strategic thinking. Experience of public speaking to small and large groups is an advantage
  • The location is the IHS Markit office in London and the candidate must be willing to travel frequently within the region and occasionally as necessary to other regions
