Job Description

Position: Principal Policy PlannerLocation: East LondonSalary: £44,000 - £52,000 p/a (Grade 5) + benefits and 30 days annual leave entitlementHours: 35 hours per weekOur client, is at the heart of Londons eastward growth, attracting developers and investors to the most affordable and accessible opportunities in the whole of the Southeast. With 400 hectares of development land, our client plans to provide 50,000 high quality new homes and 20,000 new jobs within the next 20 years.As our Principal Planner, you will deliver the full range of planning policy work, with a heavy forward-looking focus, helping to strategically shape the future of the Borough.Your team will be responsible for producing the New Local Plan and Infrastructure Delivery Plan. Also assessing planning applications and evidence with respect to biodiversity and green infrastructure, as well as writing and reviewing local policies to ensure the Borough meets long term sustainability targets through carefully considered, sustainability appraisals, flood risk appraisals and leading on a range of Policy Planning issues for the borough.Policy Planner Specific Duties

  • To make high quality planning assessments drawn from a spatial policy basis having regard to the Local Plan, Regional Plans and the NPPF.
  • Reviewing evidence base documents for Local Plan. Writing and reviewing policies
  • Continue to develop the Boroughs infrastructure delivery plan, including developing strategies for Waste, Flood prevention, utility planning and managing the Duty to Cooperate Process with key stakeholders.
  • Comissioning and managing Local Plan Viability Work
  • Housing Delivery Reports
  • Planning Obligations SPD
  • Sustainability Appraisals of development sites
  • Commenting on planning applications with respect to biodiversity and green infrastructure
  • Flood risk assessments
  • Planning for Gypsy and Travellers sites
  • Waste and Joint Waste Plan
  • Responding to consultee comments (internal and external)
  • Commissoning tenders and managing consultants
  • Supporting Graduate Planners
    • Job requirements
  • Recognised degree in town planning and MRTPI status (or eligibility)
  • A comprehensive knowledge of the practical application of the legislation and standards relating to the Planning Act
  • Substantial experience in planning policy (London experience ideally)
  • A proven record or experience of communicating in person, by telephone and in writing in a calm, courteous and confident professional manner.
  • Proactive and able to work successfully in teams
  • Creative and innovative in solving complex problems
