Barts Health NHS TrustPrincipal Clinical Scientist in Clinical BiochemistryBand 8A (£52,643 - £58,558 inclusive of inner London Allowance)We welcome applications for a Principal Clinical Scientist vacancy to join a team of 2 Consultants and 6 Clinical Scientists at Barts Health department of clinical biochemistry, London. We are advertising a full-time post, but are happy to discuss part-time working. Remote working capability is available for some elements of the role once trained.Barts Health NHS Trust is one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers and the largest Trust in the NHS. It was created on 1 April 2012 by bringing together Barts and The London NHS Trust, Newham University Hospital NHS Trust and Whipps Cross University Hospital NHS Trust. The Trust has a turnover of some £1.1 billion and 15,000 employees.The department of clinical biochemistry operates a hub (Royal London) and spoke (Barts, Whipps Cross and Newham) model, processing in excess of 14 million routine chemistry and immunoassay tests and 135,000 specialist tests including vitamin and trace element analysis, toxicology, specialist endocrinology and haematological oncology investigations. The specialist sections include LC-MS/MS, HPLC, proteins, point-of-care testing and trace elements. In 2017 we moved to a single LIMS across all sites and we have just completed the modernisation of our Roche automated analysers.We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious clinical scientist to join us in further developing the service, with experience in at least one of our specialist areas. You must be state registered with the Health Care Professions Council as a Clinical Scientist (Clinical Biochemistry), hold part 1 of the FRCPath by examination, or equivalent. Consideration will be given to appoint under AfC annex 21 for candidates who are HCPC registered as a Clinical Scientist but who have yet to attain the part 1 FRCPath examination but are actively working towards it. Full support will be given to allow the successful candidate to continue their training. A track record of research and development is essential; a PhD is desirable. You will be based at the Royal London hub with occasional travel to the spoke sites as required.Key responsibilities include:
