The NHS touches the lives of everyone in England, treating over a million people every 24 hours. Since its creation in 1948 the NHS has improved the health and wellbeing of ordinary people and stands as a shining example worldwide of healthcare that is free at the point of delivery. However, it now faces new challenges with people living longer and requiring more complex care. These increasing demands on the NHS come at a time of wider economic uncertainty, meaning the NHS must adapt to continue providing world-class care.NHS England and NHS Improvement play a central role in helping the NHS respond to these challenges The Pricing and Costing team is an integral part of the Strategic Finance department, which sits within the wider Finance, Planning and Performance directorate It has a close working relationships with Contracting, Economics, Policy and Clinical teams in NHSE/I; plus a direct relationship with every commissioner and provider delivering care in the NHS.The National Tariff Payment System we develop sets the rules for distributing over £70bn of NHS funds between commissioners and providers. The Pricing Development team is responsible for developing payment approaches that best supports the delivery of the NHS Long Term Plan, increasing the flexibility of the NHS pricing regime. The systemic and enabling role of Pricing and Costing provides a great opportunity for the team, and individuals within it, to understand the strategic functioning of the NHS system, and importantly how the funds and costs flow in the system. The team is positioned to inform and influence NHS strategy and performance, with close working relationships with senior external and internal stakeholders, including the CEO Office. Many of our team are promoted into other functions of NHSE/I, or into commissioner or provider roles in the system due to the experience and transferable skills developed whilst working in the Pricing and Costing Directorate. As a result, we have two vacancies at the Pricing Senior Analyst level (band 8a).We are looking for motivated, intellectually curious people who enjoy the challenge of tackling complex problems and developing innovative and sustainable solutions.
