Job Description

In this role you will be positioned at the heart of this influential sector’s efforts to shape policy on international development, at UK level and beyond, at a time of significant change in the UK’s global role.You will have an excellent understanding of international development policy, in particular around aid and financing for development which will be a focus area for this role. You will bring your diplomacy, leadership and facilitation skills, and experience of developing impactful policy and advocacy strategies, to convening agreement between diverse member organisations on effective shared plans. You will be a strong communicator, able to present complex policy messages in simple ways for different audiences including the media and members of the public.You will have solid experience of engaging with the UK Government and policy processes. You will be confident in analysing ODA budgets and complex data sources, drawing conclusions and communicating recommendations effectively. Sound political awareness and understanding of the role of media and public campaigning in influencing policies will enable you to create real impact in this role.Main purpose of the job Working with Policy, Advocacy and Research (PAR) team, particularly Aid Policy and Advocacy Manager (Aid PAM) and Bond members, influence the UK government and other stakeholders on effective aid and development finance policies that will reduce poverty and promote sustainable development.Main responsibilities

  1. Support Bond’s policy work on UK aid quality and effectiveness
  2. Deliver a range of influencing activities on UK aid policy
  3. Convene Bond’s Aid Effectiveness group (AEG) as an inclusive space for regular dialogue and collective action on aid quality and effectiveness, including
  4. Support Bond’s policy and advocacy work on analysing and influencing the UK government’s response to Covid-19 globally
  5. Contribute to the work of the PAR team
Person specification EssentialExpertise in international development
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of international development policy, aid quality and effectiveness and development finance issues
  • Demonstrable experience in producing high quality analysis and research involving a combination of quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
  • Track record of building strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders, with strong facilitation and negotiation skills
  • Ability to quickly analyse and assess government propositions and approaches, including detailed financial analysis and budget tracking.
  • Experience of advocacy
  • Track-record in developing impactful evidence-based policy positions as part of broader advocacy strategies in international development context
  • Experience in direct engagement with government departments and officials and understanding of how to influence decision-making processes in the UK.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced external policy and political environment, ability to spot and take opportunities, act on initiative and undertake quick policy work.

  • Experience of managing donor funded development related projects or research programmes
  • Relationships and communications
  • Strong facilitation and negotiation skills with proven ability to build trust with and broker agreement between diverse players
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (in English) including writing, editing and presentation skills, and the ability to communicate complex policy propositions to a range of audiences (external and internal).
