Physics and Maths Teacher/Residence Mentor£24,328 - £41,169 per annumplus £12,000 per annum stipend for Residence Mentor roleUWC Atlantic is at the heart of a powerful global movement and at the vanguard of progressive education worldwide. We are proud to be a part of the UWC family of 18 schools and colleges worldwide - and for our courage to champion the values, ideas and aspirations in which we all believe. We are driven by the UWC mission to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. It drives everything we do.We continue to embrace the spirit of those pioneers who not only created the College in Wales in 1962 and launched the UWC movement in 1967 but who also co-created the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme, in collaboration with the International School of Geneva (Ecolint) and UN International School in New York (UNIS).Our multicultural student body, from over 90 countries every year, comprises young people from vastly differing political, religious, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. They are selected to attend UWC Atlantic based on their demonstrated promise and potential, to make a difference in the fields of sustainability, social justice and peace. These inspirational young people are the next generation of change makers, empowered to go on to careers and lives that create impact locally, nationally and globally. The College wishes to appoint an outstanding teacher of Physics and Mathematics to work within a highly successful Group 4 Faculty of Sciences and Group 5 Faculty of Mathematics. The Physics syllabus includes the classical Physics chapters at both Higher and Standard Levels with Atomic and Nuclear Physics added and Quantum Physics at Higher Level. Certain topics such as Astrophysics and Relativity are among the possible options to choose one topic from. Extensive experimentation and coursework based on planning and measurements carried out by the students is also part of the course. The new syllabus for Mathematics on the IB Diploma offers two courses: Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretations. The College offers both at Higher Level and Standard Level. The courses are based on pure mathematics e.g. calculus, functions, trigonometry, but with some applied mathematics e.g. statistics. The Applications and Interpretations course is based more on applied mathematics with a focus on mathematics used in everyday life with topics such as interest rates, currency conversion, and modelling, as well as usual topics such as functions, trigonometry.Experience with the International Baccalaureate is an advantage but is not required or expected. What is most important is that you have the ability to teach both subjects at both levels with a passion. The IB Diploma is a subject group award so all students will be taking a mother tongue language and literature, a foreign language, a humanities subject and Theory of Knowledge in addition to Maths and a science subject.Class sizes vary but rarely contain more than twenty students. It is the practice of the Faculties for a teacher to be responsible for teaching each of their classes in a linear format for the whole two-year period. A willingness to serve as a Residence Mentor for a minimum of 3 years along with a commitment to live on campus for 5 years is an expectation.
