Job Description

Perl DeveloperAre you a Software Developer with experience working with PerlWhat will you get from this Software Developer roleWorking for a multi-award-winning company, leading the communications market with a variety of cloud, billing and hardware products and services.You would be working within a large team of people in a fast-paced environment, youll have a balance of autonomy with the benefit of also working towards shared goals and wider company aspirations of challenging the industry and continuing to deliver thelatest technologies and solutions to the UK market.The opportunity to work in an exciting industry with a company that has spent years forging long lasting relationships with some of the top UK companies, such as Virgin, BT, Microsoft, Samsung etc.Your Salary/Package as a Perl DeveloperYour salary will be between £40,000 & £60,000, with additional perks of remote working, discounts with partnered retailers, 25 days holiday and plenty more.You will also work with and learn from experts in the telecoms industry, have the opportunity to attend team & industry events as well as have access to a wellbeing and engagement team and a whole host of other benefits.Your responsibilities as a Perl DeveloperAs a software developer, youll be working day to day on the following:

  • Collaborate with fellow developers, architects and analysts to plan, design, develop and test existing and new applications/software.
  • Ensure a high standard of software quality is maintained consistently utilising the currently set good practices and habits.
  • Utilise your individual experience to identify areas for potential growth and change within the team.
  • Conduct peer-reviews of solutions designs and related code with the team.
  • Involvement in supporting deployments.
  • Plan and implement strategies to migrate legacy code bases to modern standards.
The role includes working on several projects such as:
  • Working closely with other departments to produce accurate delivery estimates and manage transitions through to design and delivery.
  • Directly or indirectly providing support and coaching for some of the less experienced developers.
  • Maximise engagement and support from the key stakeholders by building and maintain strong project teams and communication on the project status throughout its life cycle.
  • Analyse and resolve technical and application problems.
  • Participate in reviews and meetings and provide updates on project progress.
Is the Software Developer role for youDo you have a proven track record in;
  • Working across the full software development lifecycle.
  • Developing medium to large scale Perl applications
  • Working within modern web based MVC framework e.g. Mojolicious/Dancer/Catalyst
  • Unit Testing and Integration Testing.
Have a desire to develop your skills in:
  • Mojolicious or CGI:Application
  • CI/CD tools e.g. CircleCI/Jenkins etc.
  • Backend Frameworks: CGI:Application and Mojolicious
  • OS: Ubuntu Linux
  • Webservers and Load balancers: HAProxy + Nginx
  • Deployment: Rex and Capistrano
