Job Description Open Source Software Engineer - Amazing opportunity to join one of the Big4 Tech companies - Competitive salary & benefits Our client needs help on a project that has been open-sourced for more than nine years now, and it continues going strong. We are looking for someone who has a good grasp of build systems, and wants to work on building the next generation build system. This role involves you working with the internal development team as well as the community members on both technical and community aspects of the project. This role is primarily engineering focused, and aimed at developing the features required to help thewider industry leverage the cutting edge features the company is developing on the tool.   • Working with the core dev teams around potential improvements to the system
  • Feature development on extensibility and integration features to help anyone easily pick up and set up the tool
  • Enabling a build and test pipelines for continuous integration and open source releases
  • Managing existing GitHub PRs and Issues which involves:
  • Prioritizing work items filed by the community
  • Working with independently and with the internal development team on the GitHub issues and Pull Requests
  • Escalation of any major problem or community violation to the core dev team
  • Resolution of the community disputes along with the core dev team
  • 3rd Party Service integrations
  • Build plugin integrations with public services to allow users to have choice of providers for things such as Remote Execution, logging, etc.
  • Enabling build comparisons with alternate build systems
  • Build scaffolding for conversions to interpret a projects build system and compare build performance.
Required Experience:From the technical point of view, the candidate should have at least one of the following languages: Rust (preferred), C++ or Python. Experience with build systems and development tools is also necessary. We need someone who is both technically proficient and has a great deal of experience with open source. We are looking for a person who has done more than just go through a committers flow on GitHub. The ideal candidate has experience prioritizing and discussingissues (as well as resolving them) and shows a great deal of understanding of the open source community.
