Job AdvertSchool of Physics and AstronomyResearch Fellow/Senior Research FellowSalary: £47,325 - £64,185 per annum Ref: QMUL21975About the RoleThe Particle Physics Research Centre (PPRC) has a vacancy for a detector physicist. The role supports the PPRC through development, construction and commissioning of detectors for large international particle physics projects and generic R&D. The PPRC has significant roles in the construction of the ATLAS Inner Tracker (ITk) and DUNE projects, as well as a diverse generic R&D programme. The role will adapt to serve the changing needs of the PPRC. The successful applicant is expected to make significant personal contributions to the ITk programme. Once that project is completed the post holder will work on R&D and future projects depending on the priorities and strategy of the centre.There is one post available at either Senior Research Fellow (Grade 7)/Research Fellow (Grade 6) level. The attached job profiles provide details of the duties and criteria for each post. Please indicate on your application the level of post you are applying for.For both levels of post you should have a PhD (or equivalent) in experimental particle physics or equivalent experience in a relevant field. At the Senior Research Fellow level you will be able to demonstrate strong team leadership, including coordination with engineering and technical staff, and ability to mentor, coach and develop junior staff and students.The post is available from 1st August 2020. Starting salary will depend on experience and be in the range of £47,325 - £64,185 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
