Job Description

Alzheimers Society is the UKs leading dementia charity. We provide information and support, improve care, fund research, and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.Position: Online Community AssistantLocation: Flexible across England, Wales & Northern IrelandContract type: Full Time, PermanentHours: 35 per weekSalary: £17,732 to £18,629 per annum depending on skills and experience, plus London Allowance of £3,600 if applicableClosing date: 5 March 2020Interview date: 25 March 2020About the role:Talking Point is Alzheimer’s Society’s online community for anyone affected by dementia. It’s a place to ask questions, share experiences and get information and practical tips about living with dementia. People can connect with someone who is going through a similar experience and receive valuable peer support. The service is operated by three teams – a small team of employees, and two teams of volunteers (who all have personal experience of dementia and volunteer from their homes in different countries and time zones).Our online community provides vital support for people with dementia, carers and their families. You will support the effective operation of Talking Point, work collaboratively with volunteers and employees on the team to complete tasks and escalate key issues to the Online Community Manager. You will help ensure that the service meets the needs of people affected by dementia including those who are at risk of harm and abuse.You will support service promotion activities by curating and creating content to showcase the value of the service. You’ll also manage the email enquiries inbox, ensuring a wide range of queries are handled effectively, in an empathic and supportive way. You’ll also help to support two teams of volunteers who are based remotely, and actively support the organisation of our volunteer meetings where we bring the whole team together for training and peer support.About you:You are a supportive and empathic person, able to adapt your communication style to meet the needs of the person and the requirements of the task. You’re able to handle a varied workload, to respond well to urgent issues, and know when to escalate or collaborate with others. You’ll ideally understand the importance of safeguarding policy and content moderation for online communities.You’ll have a good knowledge of digital communication platforms and ideally experience in moderating user generated content and in using online community software. You’ll have knowledge of volunteering and ideally some experience in supporting volunteers. You’ll have an interest in curating and creating content for the web. You’ll ideally also have knowledge of dementia and the emotional impact of the challenges it can bring.This role will give you the opportunity to join a dynamic and committed team, and the chance to work with volunteers and colleagues to deliver a high quality digital service which supports thousands of people with dementia, carers and their families.You may have experience of the following: Online Community Assistant, Online Communities, Community Moderator, Community Manager, Online Community Manager, Communications, Digitatl Communications, Community Support Worker, Support Worker, Volunteer Coordinator, Volunteer Support, Charity, Charities, NFP, Not for Profit, Third Sector, etc.
