Job Purpose The role of stewardship analyst will report to the Head of Stewardship within Newtons PRI A+ rated and Stewardship Code Tier 1 ranked responsible investment team. The successful candidate will play an important role in delivering Newtons commitments to investor stewardship; ensuring that not only are client and regulatory requirements met but also stewardship activities are embedded further into Newtons investment process Key Responsibilities Conduct engagement with investee companies and also work alongside global industry analysts and portfolio managers when determining and acting on engagement priorities. Exercise voting rights such that the active decisions taken are in line with Newtons voting policy, support investment expectations, capture any engagement activity and are aligned with evolving best practices and regulations. Contribute to the evolution of Newtons approach to stewardship and investment considerations of corporate governance matters. Ensure stewardship activities are accurately and consistently recorded. Work with relevant business stakeholders to drive and evolve the reporting of Newtons stewardship activities. Contribute to presentations and materials for existing and prospective clients. Represent Newton at industry events through attendance and participation at conferences and groups. Research and author position papers, blogs, articles etc on salient stewardship and ESG matters. Work closely with members of Newtons responsible investment team and wider investment team. Identify and support investment ideas with timely and well-written research, and be responsive to research prioritisations. Liaise with dealing, business development, marketing and other areas of the business as required. Qualifications The successful should possess many of the following characteristics: In excess of 3 years experience within a relevant role at an investment firm. A track record of influencing change. Strong and convincing communication skills (verbal and written) and a proven ability to develop and enhance relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts. A strong command of the issues and opportunities surrounding stewardship across multiple asset classes. An appreciation for ESG factors in the context of an investor. Effective collaborative engagement. An understanding of active and thematic investment.
