Job Description

To Deliver an integrated Network system as part of a larger Combat System productJoin part of the project delivery team working on products to be used within current and future defence systems.Client DetailsMy client is a leader in the Defence sector. They are working on a number of sensitive projects, offering the successful individual the chance to develop some new core skills, working on a variety of complex IT systems including combat and defence networks.DescriptionNetwork Engineer - Defence & AerospaceMajor Tasks and Activities:

  • Installation and configuration of a complex network architecture to ensure the network meets its availability and performance requirements
  • Support and maintain the availability of the network sub-system
  • Resolve and implement solutions to observations raised on the network sub-system
  • Carry out investigations into operational problems or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team.
  • Support other discipline teams (e.g. Software, Systems) with trouble shooting and resolving system observations.
Additional Key Accountabilities:
  • Keep up to date in relevant technical areas, develop skills and capabilities to be able to provide more effective services (seeking and sharing good practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices), and supply technical support and expertise toothers as required.
  • Answer Technical queries about his/her own work
  • Assist in network modelling, analysis, planning, and coordination between network and data communications hardware and software
  • Act as a member of a technical team created to accomplish tasks of a specialist nature.
ProfileNetwork Engineer - Defence & AerospaceKey Technical Skills We require a Network engineer with experience of a number of the following:
  • An understanding of how to configure and setup Juniper and Dell Switches and Juniper Firewalls
  • Experience with configuring and installing client and server network software
  • Knowledge of Local Area Networking (LAN) and/or Wide Area Networking (WAN) technologies
  • An understanding of the technology behind a switched architecture and its workings (DNS, DHCP, Security, IP Switching/Routing, HTTP, VPN, etc.)
  • Current Juniper JNCIA, JNCIS, JNCIP or CCNA/CCNP and/or CCDA certification
  • Experience of working with Switches, Routers, Hubs, Servers, Cables (Cat 5-6), Fibre Optics, Racks LAN, WAN, TCP/IP (Ethernet)
  • Network Management & Monitoring Systems e.g. PRTG and Solarwinds
  • A good knowledge of all phases of the software lifecycle but with particular experience in Integration & Acceptance.
And ideally knowledge in one or more of the following:
  • Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2016
  • Other operating systems including VMware ESXi Server 4/5, Linux (SUSE /RedHat).
  • Working knowledge of various VMware tools.
  • Working knowledge of SAN Technologies.
