As a Barclays Netting & Credit Risk Mitigation Lawyer you will provide legal support and legal and reputational risk management to the Resource Management Group (RMG) business in EME. You will be responsible for managing and recording various types of legal opinions (close-out netting, bankruptcy remoteness, accounting balance sheet netting) across trading agreements, governing laws, counterparty types, and counterparty jurisdictions applicable to Barclays Internationals trading relationships. What will you be doing • Running the periodic netting review process for industry association and Barclays-procured legal opinions • Obtaining new netting or bankruptcy remoteness legal opinions from external counsel or refreshing existing netting or bankruptcy remoteness legal opinions • Managing escalations of complex issues to within the team and to the Barclays International Netting & Collateral Committee • Attending and providing guidance to internal committees with respect to legal and reputational risk • Assisting with queries from the various Markets businesses and the Resource Management Group within Barclays regarding the scope of the legal opinions • Acting as strategic partner and advisor to RMG on the legal, regulatory, and reputational impact of regulatory change and implementation • Representing Barclays in dialogue with regulatory and supervisory bodies and industry associations • Providing technical legal analysis in relation to RMG which feeds directly into contract negotiations with clients and informs decision making in relation to client relationship What were looking for: • Qualified lawyer - Commonwealth or US-qualified lawyer with derivatives and/or bankruptcy/insolvency legal experience gained in either private practice or in-house • Significant experience of US, UK and EU legislation with respect to regulatory capital and leverage standards, and account standards Skills that will help you in the role: • Some experience of derivative and securities financing master trading agreements and/or bankruptcy/insolvency law and associated legal opinions • Identifies legal and commercial risks within the framework of the firms governance and risk policies, knows when to escalate and integrates with other core risk functions Where will you be working 5 North Colonnade is home to our investment bank and is in the heart of Canary Wharf, just a short walk from our headquarters at Churchill Place.
