Job Description

We cover all disciplines in pathology including allergy, biochemistry and endocrinology, haematology and blood transfusion, histopathology and cytology, immunology, and microbiology and serology, with each laboratory equipped with the best available analytical instrumentation.About the RoleWe have a brilliant opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Assistant (SCMD). To assist in the provision of technical support for a range of SCMD’s clinical diagnostic services with particular focus in Clonality. This will include nucleic acid extraction & quality assessment, PCR/QPCR setup, slide prep/staining, data analysis/report preparation and administrative duties.Duties and Responsibilities

  • To undertake sufficient training as is required to provide technical support to the Clinical team in the delivery of clinical services (primarily somatic mutation analysis by QPCR and Clonality) provided by SCMD. This will include nucleic acid extraction/quality assessment, preparation of H&E slides, and PCR/QPCR set up.
  • General filing duties, including slides, blocks and request forms, as well as the shredding of old confidential data where appropriate.
  • Participate in the completion of internal audits and quality improvement measures as required.
  • Assist in ensuring that controlled documents such as SOPs kept up to date and fit for purpose.
  • Adhere at all times to HCA’s policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that the welfare of the patient is paramount. Procedures either directly or indirectly performed can adversely affect the patient results.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient use of all laboratory resources.
  • Ensure that all duties are carried out to the highest possible standard and in accordance with the current quality initiatives within the working area.
