Are you an exceptional NLP expert with a passion for leveraging your skills in the field of computational biology This role is for a rapidly growing startup in the heart of London, seeking a talented individual to spearhead their automated literature searchand biological sequence analysis pipelines. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Head of ML & CTO, driving the development of robust and scalable approaches to automated literature analysis. Additionally, you will lead the charge in creatingpredictive DNA and protein language models, among other sequence-based prediction methods. This is an incredible opportunity to define and lead a research-based team, applying the latest NLP research and methods to address a globally significant problem.Core ML Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Enhance and iterate their existing automated literature search pipeline, scaling it to efficiently parse and analyse over 10 million pieces of literature.
  • Stay up to date with state-of-the-art algorithms, repositories, and tools for various NLP tasks, including Named Entity Recognition, Relationship Extraction, and Concept Disambiguation.
  • Curate and refine internal datasets and resources, focusing on LLM fine-tuning and establishing meaningful benchmarks and evaluations for tracking as we scale.
  • Design and implement effective LLM-tooling strategies for complex datasets.
ML Engineer Requirements:
  • Possess an MSc or PhD in Computational Biology, Biophysics, Math, Statistics, ML, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of natural language processing methods, including deep learning techniques, knowledge distillation, prompt engineering, and fine-tuning.
  • Bring industry-relevant experience in deep learning applications within product development and commercial settings, ideally in the Life Sciences domain.
  • Show proficiency in neural network architectures, particularly transformer-based models.
  • Exhibit excellent scripting skills in Bash and Python, along with expertise in deep learning frameworks (preferably PyTorch).
  • Have experience working in cloud environments.
  • Possess outstanding communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
Nice-to-haves:
  • Around three years of experience managing an ML or AI team in the Life Science industry.
  • Proven track record of successful leadership.
  • Familiarity with various neural network architectures, such as autoencoders, convolutional neural networks, and graph attention networks.
  • Experience in bioinformatics or engineering.
  • Knowledge of data pipelining and prior experience with cloud-based ML model deployment.
  • A relevant publication record.
  • Proficiency in Agile systems.
  • Experience with neo4j/cypher.
