A busy and wide-ranging role, the Media Officer at RBG Kew is part of a busy Communications team and has specific responsibility for securing media coverage for programming like arts and culture aimed at driving visitors to Kew Gardens.This is an exciting time to join RBG Kew as it enters a key decade with a brand-new mission and purpose, including attracting new audiences by ensuring it has broad appeal and is welcoming to everyone. Dealing with a high volume of media enquiries, broadcast filming on site, event coordination and evaluating using data metrics, the Media Officer will find no two days are the same, there is literally never a dull moment! They will also have the chance to work with fascinating people across all Kew departments to improve and deliver excellent external communications in a clear, fun and engaging way.Kew is the worlds leading botanic gardens, at the forefront of plant and fungal science, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a major visitor attraction.We want a world where plants and fungi are understood, valued and conserved - because our lives depend on them.We use the power of our science and the rich diversity of our gardens and collections to provide knowledge, inspiration and understanding of why plants and fungi matter to everyone.To thrive in this role, the ideal candidate will have acquired experience either in an agency or in house at an organisation of developing and implementing media campaigns from start to finish including; meeting with creative or commercial partners, writing briefs, pitching to the media, setting up and managing media interviews and arranging PR launches, photo calls and filming; writing copy for a wide variety of media materials.The successful candidate will be open to working on a wide range of projects and campaigns and always be willing to pitch in when colleagues need their support. They will also need to have the confidence to represent the team at some meetings, thinking strategically about their work in the context of the wider directorate strategy, and prioritise accordingly. Excellent interpersonal skills, strong writing and top-notch organisational skills are therefore a must for anyone considering this role.The successful candidate will also have an appreciation of nature and current environmental issues and understand how RBG fits into the wider picture.
