Job Description

The Manager, Index Research and Design EMEA will work in the FTSE Russell Index Research and Design team. The role reports to the Head of Index Research and Design, EMEA and is based in London. The Equity Index Research team are responsible for the development,design and research of equity indices and index related materials. The team work closely with both internal front and back office departments and FTSE Russells partners and key clients, including major asset owners, fund managers and investment banks in thecreation of new index products. This involves the use of fundamental and quantitative techniques to design and provide index solutions and analysis across all asset classes. It is a global team, with members in London, New York, Hong Kong and Taipei. Key Responsibilities

  • Development of investment analytics and research tools.
  • Lead the research initiative of structured products, commodity and derivatives and quantitative OTC and ETP strategies.
  • Development of risk-based, factor-based and sustainable investment indices employing quantitative portfolio investment techniques.
  • Carry out equity investment research and produce research materials, papers and other collateral.
  • Client engagements, providing technical product support for the client engagement process with key institutional clients.
  • Share team responsibilities of index rebalances, construction and calculation of investment metrics and reports, and other supporting functions.
  • Maintain strong relationships and effective communication with the development, product, sales and marketing functions.
  • Respond to internal and external research enquiries related to index construction and analytic developments.
Candidate Profile / Key SkillsIt is expected that with limited supervision the individual will deliver each of the key objectives of the role identified above, working to strict deadlines and to the highest degree of accuracy. The individual should therefore have:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of equity, commodity, and derivative portfolio constructions. Exposures to digital assets and thematic equity strategies, and familiar with currency overlays
  • Knowledge of quantitative investment analytics; including equity factor models and derivative strategies, portfolio construction techniques including tilting and optimization-based approaches, and risk and performance attribution/analysis
  • Strong independent research capability. Successful candidate needs to demonstrate their ability to carry out quantitative investment research independently and to produce research results in the forms of papers, reports or product initiatives
  • Extensive analytical investment experience - 5 years plus on sell or buy side with a thorough understanding of the role and usage of indices, structured products and ETP
  • Substantial experience in the use of SQL, Python (or other e.g. Matlab or R) in an analytical environment
  • Education to post-graduate in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Ph.D. or M.Sc.)
  • Experience of buy and or sell side end-user requirements
  • Ability to work in a team to strict deadlines, manage workloads effectively and readily assume additional responsibilities
