Job Description

Location: HDR UK Offices, Health Data Research UK, Gibbs Building, 215 Euston Road, London, NW1 2BE. As a result of the pandemic, staff are currently working remotely. All HDR UK roles are primarily based at the London offices, however we are flexibly working across a number of geographical locations. Travel will be required to HDR UK locations and partner organisations.Reporting to: Institute Director, HDR UKAbout Health Data Research UKHealth Data Research UK (HDR UK) is the national Institute for data science in health. Our UK team of experts develop and apply cutting-edge data science approaches to clinical, biological, genomic and other multi-dimensional health data to address the most pressing health research challenges facing the public. Our mission is to make game-changing improvements in the health of patients and populations through data science research and innovation.We have been central to the UKs response to COVID-19, enabling a trustworthy, national approach to using health data, drawing on the full capabilities of UK research. This enabling health data for research into understanding the virus, clinical trials for treatments (including Dexamethasone), symptom trackers, risk calculators and impacts on vulnerable groups, including cancer patients.For the first time we are bringing together our unique nationwide health data assets and specialists across academia, research and healthcare to unlock knowledge and deliver new insights from molecule to man. This is being achieved through a three-part health data research infrastructure - the Alliance, Hubs and Gateway:UK Health Data Research Alliance - an Alliance of data suppliers committed to making an unprecedented breadth and depth of data available for research and innovation purposes. Health Data Research Hubs - making data available, curating data, and providing expert research services. The Hubs will be centres of expertise to get from data to insight and the location to collaborate and co-create. Health Data Research Innovation Gateway - providing discovery, accessibility, security and interoperability to surface data, support linkage, and enable health data science safely and efficiently.By undertaking research at scale, across a population of up to 65 million people, we have an unrivalled opportunity to use data to the highest ethical standards to drive breakthroughs in medical research. The CEO and CTO of HDR UK are designing and leading the strategic delivery of Delivering the Infrastructure Strategy Defining the product and service roadmap for its component - the Alliance/Hubs/Gateway. Driving product delivery through the Alliance, Hubs and Gateway, with a team of world-class engineers, designers and scientists. Identifying new capabilities to meet user needs - including new hubs, new tools, new datasets (in the UK and internationally) Leading the development of sustainable business models for each part of the product, working with the public, patient and practitioner teams to ensure these are transparent and trustworthy. Capturing metrics and use-cases that inform the success of products (including benefits to patients & public) Research and market analysis to develop the product to suit evolving needs.HDR UK Scientific PrioritiesHDR UKs mission depends on translation of health data research into benefits for patient care, clinical trials, biomedical advancements and public health. It relies on effective partnerships with the NHS and front-line clinical teams, clinical trials organisations, pharmaceutical companies and Government. Our translation strategy is structured around six health data use priorities led by outstanding research teams across the UK: Understanding Causes of Disease Clinical Trials Better Care Public Health Applied analytics PhenomicsPurpose of the postWe are now seeking an exceptional individual to join this team. The purpose of this new position is to build upon this outstanding platform and its component infrastructure, data and scientific expertise to lead on industry engagement, new major programmes, and trustworthy commercial use of health data for research and innovation. Partnerships will involve and engage major providers of infrastructure, methodology and technology to enable the capture, secure storage and analysis of data; providers of medical technology, providers of vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutic compounds.The postholder will have the vision to identify opportunities that address global challenges and positively effect affect societal change through data driven innovation. HDR UKs approach to innovation builds upon extensive and thriving cross-disciplinary partnerships with industry (in the technology, devices and healthcare sectors) , national and local government, major charities and other philanthropic organisations and the education sector partners that has resulted in the £230M of infrastructure, science and training programmes under active management.Specifically, the postholder will define the strategic development of new innovative public/private partnerships and deliver major new programmes that harness HDR UK scientific expertise, products and services, nationally and internationally.The post will report directly to the Director and be instrumental, along with CEO, CTO and Executive Committee in the future growth and strategic development of HDR UK. The post is of particular importance and purpose as the Institute prepares for its first quinquennial review.Responsibilities Designing and delivery of a portfolio and roadmap of major strategic engagements that grow use of and contribution to the health data research infrastructure (including new hubs, new tools and new datasets, that deliver benefits to patients and the public) - both in the UK and internationally. Developing sustainable business models for the portfolio, working with the public, patient and practitioner teams to ensure these are transparent and trustworthy. Drive growth through identification, development and delivery of new major programmes that income generate, leverage and contribute to the HDR UK Infrastructure, supporting ground-breaking discoveries that improve peoples lives. To achieve this the postholder will: Identify strategic opportunities, nationally and internationally, that demonstrate the benefits and impact of the HDR UK Gateway products and services and associated expertise.
