Your new team:The Investment Tax team has responsibility within the Investments/Real Assets Department with respect to taxation rules and principles to maximise retirement outcomes for our members by ensuring that investment decisions are made on a tax informed basis.With one other tax specialist in our London office, this role will work closely with them, managing the UK & European investment tax structuring process with investments, managing tax risks, assisting with the development of strategic initiatives for the investmentsdepartment and maintaining relations with the Funds advisors, peers and with relevant government officials.As this is a new seat in London, it will be an exciting challenge for anyone who has a passion for M&A Tax matters across investments, looking for a hands-on role with a great mix of responsibility and autonomous working, all whilst being part of a small teamin an international environment!International Team:To support the ongoing growth of the Fund, we established a permanent team in London nearly 6 years ago. This enables the Fund to expand its global investment portfolio and build our international profile by having a permanent presence in Europe and hiringlocal specialists who will deepen our international relationships and support implementing local best practice based on local experience.We have also opened and are in the process of building up our teams in the New York office also, following a similar plan to our UK operations.In a small scale office environment, you will be exposed to professionals across all of our Investment Asset classes, as well as other functions required to support them, giving you the chance to build broad relationships, gain a deeper understanding of howeach of these areas operate and get involved in activities outside of your immediate role or team.Our office is based at 2 Pancras Square in the Kings Cross which is part of the Kings Cross redevelopment project which is one of the core assets of our investment portfolio.You will join a group of dedicated and talented individuals in an environment underpinned by trust and respect. You will feel enabled to have both an interesting career and a fulfilling life because at AustralianSuper every role is flexible.Your new roleWhat makes this role unique is that it has a broad range of responsibilities and mix of work streams, including working on structuring, general tax due diligence, legal documents, and investment modelling. As you will be working with three different investmentteams across the real assets space, youll have exposure to all different types of investments.Duties:
  • Managing the tax due diligence and structuring processes for UK & European investments (both direct and indirect) at acquisition and disposal.
  • Working closely with the internal and external third parties; advisors, Portfolio Managers, co-investors, and relevant tax authorities
  • Play a significant role as part of the deal team for each new investment
  • Ensure transaction documentation achieves the intended tax outcomes of the structure identified, collaborating with the Legal team
  • Ensure proposals comply with the relevant tax law and meet all requirements of the Funds tax risk policies.
  • Work collaboratively with the Funds stakeholders, ensuring all tax issues covering the whole of investment life cycle are identified for optimal implementation.
  • Assist with planning for the Funds UK & European investment tax strategy, identifying preferred models/structures for making investments.
  • Help the internal Investment Managers on day to day queries on UK & European investments and potential investments.
Youll need:You will be a dynamic individual, with a significant career to date within the M&A and/or advisory space in an investment tax capacity. As its a small growing team, you will also ideally enjoy engaging with a range of different stakeholders and thrive on beinghands on, assisting the internal teams, with:
  • Relevant degree or equivalent in Business, Accounting disciplines or Tax Law
  • Minimum of 6 years experience within the M&A transaction space and/or within the relevant real asset investment space (Property or infrastructure investments etc)
  • Experience working in a Big4/Professional Services firm, and/or a superannuation or funds management environment.
  • Advanced understanding of taxation legislation in relation to investment markets and securities
  • Advanced analytical skills and high-level attention to detail mindset
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present arguments in written and verbal format.
  • Understanding of accounting and taxation principles
  • Strong rapport building skills
  • Proactive and self-starter attitude, with a hands-on approach
  • Knowledge of superannuation funds taxation requirements in a plus
