Job Description

Scope of the JobResponsible to: All Diploma/BA/MA programmes at SPAA, Programme Leaders and Executive DirectorResponsible for: Dance provision within undergraduate and post graduate programmesWorks Closely with: Lead Singing Tutor, Lead Voice Tutor, Lead Music Tutor, and Lead Acting TutorJob PurposeThe Lead Dance Tutor is a full-time role at Sharjah Performing Arts Academy and is responsible for assisting with the logistical programming and innovative practice for all dance and movement related activities at SPAA. The Lead Dance Tutor has a key role in overseeing the dynamic and safe practice within the delivery of dance/movement related teaching. This Lead role requires a skillset in which the candidate has extensive practical experience in their field but also has successful experience of module management, leading assessment/feedback, budgeting and leading a team. They will lead the dance team to work succinctly alongside the other departments within the performance programmes and the wider faculty at Sharjah Performing Arts Academy. The Lead Dance Tutor reports directly to the Programme Leader - Dance and the post is responsible for serving dance/movement provision to all programmes.Duties and Responsibilities Organise and facilitate the faculty pertaining to all activities within the dance, movement and fitness modules Reporting directly to Programme Leader - Dance, and ultimately the Executive Director Implement the development and delivery of all dance courses within SPAA. Safe practice will be at the forefront of practice alongside developing and inspiring innovative teaching which connects with a multidisciplinary training that remains dynamic and relevant to the industry Through the dance faculty, facilitate dance module assessments with clear progressive feedback for students Assist with timetabling and schedules for the dance courses Assist in interviews and hiring for all dance tutors Assist with outreach and audition procedures to maintain high levels within student recruitment Supervise and coach all dance tutors - ability to mentor, manage and share practice and pedagogy Develop and oversee all dance tutors schemes of work for compliance within Academys teaching and learning policies Organise and execute classes in a range of dance styles and techniques, with a clearly defined specialism in at least one genre Cultivate advanced practice within movement and dance through continued CPD The Lead Dance Tutor may be required to undertake additional duties relevant to the running of the team and modules, with specific relation to inspection and validation points across the academic year.Key InteractionsAs part of the SPAA team and working closely with the Programme Leaders and other Lead tutors to ensure our students are provided with the highest levels of teaching and learning support during their course of study. Through these channels of the Academy the SPAA team will enable these fundamental practices ensuring courses are running effectively and efficiently for the benefit of the students and the wider arts community in Sharjah.Knowledge and ExperienceEssential: BA Degree and significant experience and/or additional qualifications in professional performing arts education and training At least 10 years experience teaching within a vocational performing arts institution Must be trained in multiple disciplines, with specialist knowledge and training in one particular genre A broad scope of applied dance skills and theoretical knowledge for student graduate study Previous experience in assessment/feedback procedure Understanding within student assessment and feedback Excellent skills in dance pedagogy Ability to work independently and as a member of a multinational team, showing compassion as well as independence Ability to work on a flexible schedule, which may include evening and weekend work Excellent verbal and written communications skills Flexible approach to pedagogy to suit the Academys dynamic needs, potential cultural considerations, and to enhance collaborative delivery Ability to work with students from varying cultural backgrounds and abilities Encouragement of high order thinking Energetic, driven, creative and dependable Openness to adapting and developing practiceDesirable: Relevant postgraduate qualification Direct industry experience Connections within the dance industry for outreach and collaborative purposes Clear understanding of schemes of work and preparing class work in line with the course units and marking systems Experience working within a multinational school environment Ability to adapt to a wide range of age groups Experience writing and delivering course modules for higher education Clear module deliverance Choreography and movement direction Second or third language.Core CompetenciesDelivery through: Decision making and solving problems with the Programme Leader - Dance Building teams and communication with students Facilitating changeDevelopment through: Resilience Driving resultsContextSharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) is an independent Academy established by His Highness, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, to address a growing demand in the UAE and MENA region for formal quality education and professional training in the performing arts sector. SPAA is the only performing arts conservatoire in the MENA region, offering quality undergraduate and graduate degree programmes taught in English. The purpose-built Academy comprises one 432 seat theatre, two fully equipped studio performance spaces, TV/recording studios, twelve sprung rehearsal studios, 12 singing tutorial spaces, resource library, gymnasium and cafe.Sharjah Performing Arts Academy specialises in training graduates for work in the international professional performing arts industry.
