Job Description

About this role: Wells Fargo is seeking a Lead Counsel to work within the EMEA Legal - Regulatory Change team. As part of its support for Wells Fargos global businesses in EMEA, APAC, Canada and Latin America, the Legal Department is responsible for advising the Wells Fargo programmes that document Wells Fargos compliance requirements arising from material laws, regulationsand rules applicable to its businesses located outside the United States, and in providing cross-border services to its clients in these regions. In this role, you will:

  • Work within a global team on the design and implementation of the programmes responsible for documenting Wells Fargos legal and regulatory requirements outside the United States.
  • Providing written summaries of legal and regulatory developments to stakeholders, including the Legal Department, the business, and other corporate functions, and advise on such developments as needed.
  • Analyzing changes in laws, regulations and rules to assess applicability and impact to Wells Fargos activities outside the United States.
  • Collaborating with internal line of business lawyers to respond to questions from the business and corporate functions.
  • Instructing and liaising with external counsel as required.
  • Providing regulatory advice on other matters on an ad hoc basis.
Required Qualifications, International:
  • Duly qualified lawyer admitted to practice law in England, the United States, other common-law or European jurisdiction.
  • Ability to analyze legal and regulatory issues in area of practice and provide effective advice to clients on complex legal matters.
  • Prior experience in advising on legal, regulatory, and compliance issues for a financial services firm.
  • Ability to evaluate impacts based on changes in laws or regulations.
  • Experience conducting multi-jurisdictional survey and research, and providing counsel and guidance regarding complex legal issues.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work while handling multiple matters.
  • Ability to work effectively in a complex environment with a high degree of collaboration.
  • Effective in building partnerships, functioning well with project teams, and working for the success of the team
Desired Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in advising on legal, regulatory, and compliance issues for a financial services firm.
  • Prior experience working on significant enterprise-wide programs in a fast-paced business environment, with an ability to understand the underlying goals in order to detect legal issues and succinctly and competently counsel and communicate with lines ofbusiness and other corporate functions regarding legal risks, solutions, and alternatives.
  • Prior regulatory change management experience.
  • Prior experience advising businesses in the implementation of laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance.
  • Ability to evaluate impacts based on changes in laws or regulations.
  • Ability to assume responsibility quickly and have the ability to work in a complex environment requiring a high degree of collaboration and across multiple jurisdictions.
