Job Description

About the roleThe Languages Subject Advisor plays a key role in supporting Modern Foreign Language (MFL) teachers with our suite of Pearson Edexcel language qualifications in the UK and internationally. As the public face of Pearson languages, you will often be the firstpoint of contact to respond to queries from teachers and schools in relation to MFL matters. You will also represent and feed back on teachers views internally, being proactive to ensure that we anticipate teacher needs throughout the academic year.You will be part of a friendly, experienced and supportive team of Subject Advisors (within the Qualifications and Assessment division of Pearson), who are the focus of expertise for each subject specialism. In addition, you will work closely with the extendedMFL qualifications team, including colleagues from the product, assessment, sales and marketing teams and will be a key contact for internal colleagues, representing the teacher perspective and subject knowledge required to ensure that our guidance, products,services and support meet customer needs.Key AccountabilitiesA key part of the Subject Advisor role is to respond to incoming customer questions across a range of channels - primarily using our dedicated email system, but also via our community pages, online meetings, social media or on the phone, as required. Youwill also be proactive in keeping teachers informed, by writing email updates, tweets, subject-specific guidance documents and community posts, as well as authoring subject news articles to ensure that the languages landing page on our website is kept up todate.You will deliver live, online support sessions for teachers and language organisations at various points throughout the year and support with other MFL training events and conferences as needed. Youll build relationships and network with teachers, schoolsand key stakeholders in the MFL world, understanding developments in languages education and assessment, and representing Pearson within this context.A week in the life of During a normal working week, you might carry out some of the following activities:

  • Monitor Twitter for any direct messages needing a reply and tweet about any relevant qualification updates, forthcoming training or new resources.
  • Respond to any incoming queries about our language qualifications using our email systems. These are generally from MFL teachers and Heads of Department, but might also include some questions from exams officers, tutors, parents or private candidates.
  • Post an update and reply to posts on our language community pages.
  • Write a subject news update and arrange for this to be published on our website and added to the homepage carousel.
  • Create a PowerPoint presentation for a support session to a Multi-Academy Trust or teaching association, according to their needs and requirements.
  • Draft the next monthly email update for teachers, including qualification news, training events and resources.
  • Attend a Network event online, responding to teacher questions in the chat during the event to support the presenter.
  • Capture teacher queries or feedback on themes as they emerge and review existing guidance documents.
  • Create documentation or video support and share teacher feedback internally for further action as needed.
  • Think about how we can proactively support language teachers and Edexcel schools, for example, by creating new resources to address frequently asked questions.
  • Meet with the wider MFL team to share key teacher queries and concerns and to stay updated on internal developments that may need timely communication to our customers.
  • Meet with the Subject Advisor team to share best practice and to ensure consistently excellent customer service across all subject specialisms.
  • Attend and feed into qualification redevelopment meetings, for example for new specifications and assessment.
  • Liaise with the dedicated subject specialist from the customer service team who supports teachers on the phone with language queries (and with other internal colleagues as needed) to get their perspective on customer needs and to ensure they are fully upto speed with MFL developments.
  • Stay informed of MFL developments by reading relevant Department for Education and Ofqual updates, subject association news, tweets, MFL influencer blogs etc.
We are looking for people who display a range of these strengths and behaviours:
  • Educated to degree level with relevant language qualifications in at least one of the most taught languages in the UK (for example French, German or Spanish).
  • A qualified teacher with recent language teaching experience in a UK or international school and familiarity with MFL qualifications and UK/international education systems.
  • A confident communicator, who can deliver online and face-to-face training and can create clear guidance documents and support resources for teachers.
  • A networker, who enjoys using social media to stay in touch with and share information with language teachers.
  • A strategic thinker, who can contribute ideas to ensure outstanding customer service, to help retain market share and to promote our products and services.
  • Able to work independently but also enjoys being part of a team of knowledgeable MFL and subject experts.
  • Focused and organised - able to juggle multiple queries and workstreams in a timely manner.
Role location: This is a hybrid role and will allow for home working alongside at least 2 days per week at one of our UK based office in either London, Oxford, Manchester or Hellaby, Rotherham.For candidates further afield, there will be an expectation to visit the London office at least once per month.Your Reward & BenefitsWe know youll do great work, so we give a lot back with some of the best benefits in the business.
