We curate written and video content to amplify the messages and campaigns of charities and promote them across Smileys public channels. We are an equal opportunity employer that hires on merit and is committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.What we doOur work is guided by 17 Sustainable Development Goals prioritized by the United Nations and we deliver our mission in three ways:Writing Smiley News - a daily source of good news stories about everyday heroes, charities and organizations making a difference in the world; highlight their strategies for change, impact to date and how the public can support their work (donate, fundraise, volunteer). Public demand for positive news shot up during the 2020 pandemic which resulted in growing our community to 137,000 online followers to date. Hosting Smiley Talks -engaging panel discussions with influential charity partners to engage the public in important topics affecting the community (from mental health, gender equality, poverty to climate change); enlightening the public with evidence of the issue, presenting a holistic view of the challenge, inspiring positive changes in attitudes towards the subject and promoting a clear course of remedial action. To date weve hosted 20 events with 80 partners viewed by over 250K+ people.Smiley Network - our matchmaker for good platform, and online community that bringspeople and organizations together to do good, matches people from charities in need of support with corporates and volunteers looking to help. We believe everyone has the power to make a difference and our network aims to help make doing good easy.Charity Film Awards - the worlds leading cause-related film awards that recognises and rewards exceptional charity films that inspire positive change in the world. In their 6th Editor the CFAs are a unique opportunity to engage with the charity sector, create inspiring content by filming and interviewing contestants and help them raise awareness of their wonderful work.About the teamWe are a young and dynamic team of eight led by Smileys CEO Nicolas Loufrani. Every member on the team is at the top of their game, skilled and an efficient team player driven by Smileys cause to be a force of good in the world and committed achieving the companys vision.The Role The Journalist/Editor role is an important and exciting position that will lead Smiley Movement into this next phase of its growth plans, help uncover new editorial opportunities and meaningful partnerships and be instrumental in creating positive impact around the world. Reporting to Team Lead/Head of Partnerships & Events, we are looking for a confident and charismatic Journalist/ Editor to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to give back to the community, interview inspirational charity leaders, volunteers, CSR Managers, educators and activists making a difference in the world helping them further their causes and improve peoples lives. The Journalist/Editor will play a key role in delivering our Content Strategy and tasked primarily with writing Smiley News, a weekly newsletter and press releases, chair bi-monthly panel discussions for Smiley Talks and lead recorded Zoom interviews.ResponsibilitiesEssential Skills & Experience Degree in Journalism, Media, Communications or equivalent with English as a first language Minimum five years experience in a similar journalism/copywriting/editor role Excellent communicator able to engage audiences verbally, in writing, on camera & publicly Excellent interpersonal skills, capable at putting people at ease and maintain a positive-solution-focused tone in interviews Multitasker, able to wear different hats and work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritising workloads and meeting deadlines Positive and effective writing style, able to follow our editorial brief and produce high volumes of content. Experienced and confident at chairing panel discussions and hosting public events Capable of working independently with minimum supervision and within an existing collaborative framework with other content creators on the team. Flexible team player with a friendly, positive & approachable manner ready to support the team as neededDesired Skills & Experience Knowledgeable of the UK third and voluntary sectors, CSR projects and the SDGs Previously worked in a charity and/or connected to the UK third sector Creative and entrepreneurial spirit, ready to input in the Events content strategy, propose event ideas, interesting speakers, projects, and organisations to interview : 25 days holiday and workplace pension.To apply send your CV and portfolio to .Deadline: ASAP
