Job Description

We are SSCL, the largest provider of business-critical support services for our Government, Police and Defence customers. We play a vital role in transforming business support services, delivering digital solutions and developing innovations that make thingseasier for our customers!Our Defence business within SSCL is on the lookout for an experienced IT Project Manager to join our growing IT team.As our new IT Project Manager, you will work with teams across the business and external 3rd parties to manage the delivery of multiple small to medium sized IT projects. The projects may involve changes to single or multiple IT systems and / or the introduction,removal, or modification of technical architecture. Alongside the delivery of projects, you will support the project management team in building out the IT project delivery capability through evolving ways of workingand delivery improvements.It’s an exciting time to be joining the IT team as we grow and evolve our overall capability to successfully deliver the IT and Digital technology that underpins the strategic growth of the SSCL business.This is a hybrid role where you can be based anywhere in the UK with occasional travel to one of the SSCL Centre of Excellence.What you will be doing:

  • Successful delivery of projects, by leading and driving the project delivery and managing to time, cost and quality.
  • Ensure project controls are established and maintained for all projects within your span of control
  • Prepare requests for change (RFCs) and work with 3rd parties to agree work orders that cover the needs of the project whilst driving good value.
  • Drive the planning process to develop and agree appropriate level plans, identifying activities, tasks, dependencies and milestones
  • Secure internal and external IT resources as required for each project
  • Manage and track project progress and budget from concept to closure against plan and take mitigating action where required
  • Identify and engage project stakeholders and 3rd parties throughout the duration of the project, developing relationships and acting as a link between them
  • Identifying and recommending project delivery improvements and supporting the evolution of the IT delivery team through the project delivery improvement backlog.
What you’ll bring:
  • Good project management background delivering IT projects
  • Demonstrable experience working with and managing 3rd parties
  • Good working knowledge and experience of the application of project delivery frameworks (e.g. waterfall, Agile, hybrid)
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills with the ability to work proactively with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work at pace, with a proactive, flexible and adaptable attitude
  • Good experience in the development of project artifacts such as scope documents, project briefs and initiation documents, communication plans, project schedules, RAID logs etc

  • Experience of IT Project Management delivering change within Government / Public Sector
  • Experience in managing remote delivery teams
