Job Purpose In this role you will serve as a leader within the UK Internal Audit team and the global Internal Audit organisation. The Internal Audit Manager will assist the Chief Internal Auditor to meet the strategic objectives of the Internal Audit team to provide bold insight for a company that delivers on its promises to customers. As the third line of defence, Internal Audit is responsible for performing an independent assurance and providing an opinion on the effectiveness of systems of governance, risk management and internal control and the design and operating effectiveness of the Risk Governance Framework. Key Accountabilities • You will support the CIA in the Risk Assessment, Audit Plan development process, and the strategic initiatives of the new global IA Operating model, including taking a leadership role in a global sector. • To lead the delivery of the Wealth & Asset Management audit plan and assurance activities through: o Allocating IA staff to audit engagements o Reviewing audit engagements, ensuring delivery is to the required quality and efficiency standards as set by global IA methodology and local regulators o Managing relationships with Executive Directors o Attending relevant senior management meetings o Proposing changes to Audit Plan to respond to changes in the risk profile and business assurance needs. • To support the CIA in the preparation of Audit Committee and Executive Committee reports and deputise for CIA at governance committees and meetings, as necessary • To discharge functional staff responsibilities for the UK based Internal Auditors in terms of recruitment, coaching, mentoring and performance reviews. • To support the Chief Internal Auditor in the preparation, oversight and delivery of the annual ICOFR testing requirements • To liaise/co-ordinate with Canada Life and LifeCo stakeholders, including but not limited to: o Specialist IA IS, Change and Actuarial resources based in Potters Bar, Dublin and the global IA team o Wealth and Asset Management leadership teams o IA Irish Life team o Risk and Compliance functions o External auditors • To undertake ad-hoc investigations and due diligence exercises at the request of the CIA • To represent the IA function at change programme and project meetings Desired Knowledge / Experience / Skills The following knowledge/skills/experience are essential: • Applied knowledge of current best practice for corporate governance, risk management and regulation in the UK • Experience of working within a wealth and asset management business • Demonstrable knowledge of the key risks and challenges facing the UK wealth and asset management sectors • Experience of working in a changing business within a change culture environment • A sound knowledge and understanding of the CIIAs Internal Audit Financial Services Code (2021). • Applied advanced knowledge and expertise in the use of risk-based audit methodologies, tools and techniques; • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in preparing and delivering risk-based audit plans • Ability to work under pressure within a team and individually to take responsibility for ensuring deadlines are met. • Ability to analyse complex business and technical situations, make informed decisions about appropriate corrective actions and convince others to act. • Applied advanced knowledge and experience in using computer-assisted audit tools and techniques (e.g. Excel, ACL, Tableau) and internal audit management software. • Ability to display pragmatism whilst communicating persuasively at all levels with clarity and precision, both written and verbally; • Experience of managing a team, including developing staff and reviewing the quality of work produced by team members; • Strong interpersonal, communication and team skills; ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff both in the UK and overseas; • Professional and ethical approach. The following knowledge/skills/experience are an advantageous but not essential: • Relevant work experience in a Big Four accounting firm • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in the use of accounting concepts, COSO Internal Control - Integrated Framework (2013), the IIAs International Professional Practices Framework (2017) • Awareness and knowledge of COSO Enterprise Risk Management - Integrated Framework (2004) and Solvency II Systems of Governance. • Knowledge of current best practice for corporate governance, risk management and regulation in Canada, USA and Ireland Qualifications • Relevant professional accounting and/or audit qualification is essential, e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIA • Bachelors degree from accredited college or university • GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths (essential) What youll like about working here As a Canada Life UK colleague, youll receive a competitive salary and comprehensive reward package including income protection, private medical insurance and life assurance, along with a generous pension and bonus scheme.
