Independent Board Member - Network Homes Network Homes is one of Englands leading housing associations with over 40 years experience of developing and managing affordable homes to rent and buy. We believe that having a good home makes everything possible.We own and manage approximately 22,000 homes across London and the South East, and work on the principle that we can and must do everything possible to meet the housing crisis. We aim to build around 1,000 homes a year across all tenures and we are working to achieve overall customer satisfaction of 90%. As a board it is our responsibility to ensure that our strategy and purpose is correct, and that we hold the organisation to account to deliver. We are looking to further strengthen our board and have an opportunity for an independent to join. Principal Accountabilities of the roleBoard members have ultimate responsibility for directing the affairs of Network Homes ensuring it is solvent, well run and delivering the outcomes for which it has been set up. As a member of the Board of Network Homes your key responsibilities are: 1.To set and oversee the long term strategic direction for the organisation 2.To set the risk appetite and monitor risk 3.To ensure an effective business plan and budget is in place and that the business remains financially viable. 4.To ensure that performance is monitored and managed through internal controls and delegation 5.To approve key policies and take decisions about matters reserved to the Board. 6.To ensure that the Board fulfils its duties and responsibilities for the proper governance of the organisation including complianceCommitment: Board members are expected to: *Attend Board meetings, any additional Board meetings, and Board away days *Sit on one or two Committees of the Board, attend the meetings of these Committees and take a special interest in the relevant area*Contribute to the direction of Network Homes by supporting the executive in particular projects or areas on request, e.g. recruitment and complaint panels. *Participate in training and development, and keep abreast of developments in the sector.Knowledge and Skills RequiredStrategic perception: seeing the "big" picture; putting individual issues/events into context; understanding possible future events in the context of the operating environment. Decision making: clear about what is appropriate for a Board to be deciding; able to exercise judgement about when a decision is needed; comfortable making difficult or unpopular decisionsAnalytical understanding: digging below a headline, statistic or a report to identify further relevant performance measures or other dimensions of the issue to be addressed Interacting with others: listening skills; persuasiveness and influence in a mixed group; sensitive to others perspective and values; independent when required to bePreferred experienceExperience of housing management and/or residential development. Providing leadership and/or strategic direction to Boards, Committees or similar organisations.Required attendance*Board members are required to attend at least quarterly meetings and other occasional events primarily at Olympic Office House, 8 Fulton Road, Wembley, HA9 0NU.
