Job Description

Legal CounselRenewable energy firmLondon or Leeds£65K-£75K + 6K car allowance The role duties:

  • Providing commercially focused legal advice on a broad range of projects ensuring compliance with applicable law.
  • Reviewing, negotiating and/or drafting agreements and conducting contract negotiations with project counterparties including development, construction, O&M, financing, offtake, joint venture and facilities management services agreements for customer andcompany owned assets.
  • Supporting on commercial and contractual matters for tenders, projects, variations and on-going contractual and operational matters for the areas.
  • Assisting on the governance of transactions at local and group level.
  • Working closely with colleagues including throughout the group and with customers.
  • Managing external legal resource as required.
  • Assisting in developing and delivering training on legal matters for colleagues across the business.
The ideal candidate
  • UK (or common law equivalent) qualified solicitor or barrister with a minimum of 4 years post qualification experience.
  • Good knowledge of relevant areas of law including outsourcing, contract, commercial and UK public procurement.
  • Knowledge of or an experience of the UK power generation and energy industry preferred. Experience with urban energy heating and cooling schemes and electric vehicle charging projects would be useful but not essential.
  • Strong drafting, negotiating and analytical skills. Ability to draft and negotiate a variety of documentation including development, construction, O&M, financing, offtake, joint venture and facilities management services agreements.
  • Ability to deal with risk management, governance and compliance.
  • Ability to manage a sizeable workload in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable with stakeholder management but also able to work with colleagues at all levels of the business.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship skills, with the ability to influence and persuade others in a constructive manner.
  • Understanding of the contractual framework surrounding energy projects including renewables, urban energy heating and cooling and electric vehicle charging within the UK energy market.
  • Experience of energy projects and public procurement preferred. Experience in or familiarity with hydrogen projects would be useful.
  • Experience of facilities management outsourcing arrangements including public sector procurement framework arrangements is helpful.
  • Experience of negotiating bespoke construction and O&M/facilities management agreements and agreements based on industry standard forms in particular the JCT suite of contracts, NEC, FIDIC and IChemE.
