Job Description

About the role:As the Illegal Connections Investigator, you will be part of a dynamic, fast paced team focused on ensuring Thames Water protects our clean water network from illegal connections. You will be working with the Illegal Connections Manager investigating instances of illegal connections on our clean water network and applying the relevant enforcement legislation.Many of our customers obtain authorised connections through our Developer Services Team but those that do not and make their own unsafe illegal connection compromises our network and potentially the water quality, adding to our leakage figures and committing a criminal offence under the Water Industry Act 1991.Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Targeting areas and developers known for illegal connections.
  • Engaging with developers to educate and work toward rectification and compliance.
  • Gather evidence ensuring CPIA, PACE and Water Industry Act governance.
  • Customer and stakeholder liaison.
  • Delivering educational presentations both internally and externally.
  • Use modelling techniques to develop solutions/strategies that are innovative and efficient in delivering objectives but maintain flexibility for meeting future needs/requirements.
  • Flexible approach to working hours when required and willingness to travel where necessary within the Thames Water region.
  • To be successful, you will have the following skills and experience:
  • Preferably a background in enforcement.
  • Ability to deal with conflict and stay calm under pressure.
  • Evidence gathering and court file preparation experience.
  • Water Industry knowledge would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Excellent reporting and management of workloads.
  • Strong IT/Microsoft Office skills.
  • An ability to self-manage workload and time management along with being self-motivated.
  • Confident in delivering presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
