Job Description

Overview:Plastic Energy is at the forefront of converting non-recyclable "End-of-Life" plastics waste into high grade oils for making clean recycled plastics. Our company mission is to play a significant role in solving the global plastic problem, and to be world leaders in chemical recycling.We promote the concept of a Circular Economy of plastics, and we use a patented Thermal Anaerobic Conversion (TAC) technology to convert end-of-life and valueless plastics into a product known as TACOIL, which chemical/petrochemical companies can transform back into food-grade recycled plastics.Plastic Energy has established offices in London and Madrid, and regional offices in Singapore and Malaysia. We currently own two chemical recycling plants in Spain operating at commercial scale, several projects underway in Western Europe, and new developments defined in South East Asia.We are now seeking an HR Manager to join us at the start of March 2021 to cover a period of maternity leave for 8 -12 months. You will be joining our UK team of around 50 people. Ordinarily, this role would be carried out from our office near St Paul’s, with some home-working available; however the position may be predominantly home-based until we fully re-open our office to all our staff.We’re looking for a candidate who has strong HR management and payroll experience, ideally having acted in a stand-alone capacity, and who enjoys a generalist role. This is a busy and challenging position in a friendly and fast-moving business, which will give you the opportunity to work across departments and regions, and to continue developing our HR processes and strategy to support the evolution of our company. It would suit an adaptable, approachable and diligent individual who would like to provide meaningful input into an emerging and sustainable sector, and who is comfortable taking responsibility for their workload and its outcomes. The position reports to the CFO.Role and ResponsibilitiesYou will:

  • Deliver an effective and professional HR service to all colleagues.
  • Support line managers and provide insight on recruitment activities, including drafting job descriptions, identifying appropriate recruitment channels, coordinating interviews, and making arrangements for new starters.
  • Prepare employment contracts for new starters and keep employee files up to date.
  • Consistently focus upon individual employee wellbeing, supporting managers and individuals to improve work relationships, build morale, attain development goals, and increase productivity.
  • Manage the monthly UK payroll: liaise with our payroll provider, check figures, and answer queries from colleagues.
  • Line manage the office manager.
  • Work with the senior management team to suggest and implement HR strategies.
  • Manage complex and sensitive employee relation issues, advising upon the best process, and ensuring this is aligned to our company policies.
  • Ensure the appraisal and personal development cycle runs effectively: scheduling, communication, advice and monitoring.
  • Implement and update company policies and procedures as required.
  • Develop the company’s training and development process.
  • Support the business as it expands to other regions - providing HR support to teams in Asia, the USA and Europe; working with the legal team to draft contract of employments; and research and set up of third party payroll provision.
  • Manage company benefits, including health care and life assurance schemes.
  • Prepare written and data reports as required, for example regarding strategy, or in response to audit or due diligence requests.
  • Draft team communications, with a focus upon employee wellbeing.
  • Work with the office manager to plan inclusive company events and social activities.

  • Several years’ proven experience in an HR management role and ideally within a stand-alone position.
  • CIPD qualified (preferable) or part qualified, and committed to continuing professional development.
  • Excellent communication skills and able to foster relationships across all levels and departments.
  • High levels of professionalism and integrity.
  • Line management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment Law.
  • Experience of working in a company which spans multiple jurisdictions (desirable).
  • Experience of managing and advising upon employee relations issues, including formal processes where appropriate.
  • Confidence in running the UK payroll process, ensuring accuracy and resolving any queries.
  • Ability to run concurrent recruitment activities, maintaining an organised and courteous approach at all times.
  • A high degree of accuracy, and the ability to self-check work, particularly with regards to payroll and contractual matters.
  • Comfortable working independently and prioritising workload, whilst judging when to ask for guidance, and being willing to work flexibly and lend a hand as needed.
  • Ready to take the initiative when required and to make suggestions about improving processes.
  • Background in an engineering company (desirable).
