Job Description

HR Advisor6 Month FTC, London or Manchester based role.The TeamThe HR team is responsible for the provision of a full range of HR services to the Firm (c. 770 UK staff), including recruitment and resourcing, compensation and benefits, performance management, employee relations, staff welfare, advice on employment law issues, compliance with Law Society/statutory obligations, diversity and inclusion, appraisal arrangements and maintenance of personnel records. The job holder will report to the HR Business Partners in the HR Operations and Reward team.Responsibilities As HR Advisor, you will support four HR Business Partners (London and Manchester) in taking ownership of the HR advisory requirements for the UK offices.Key responsibilities include but not limited to:HR Operations

  • Provide guidance and assistance to employees throughout the HR life cycle (i.e. from start through to departure)
  • Coach and support line managers in handling performance concerns, disciplinary and grievance issues, sickness absence and flexible working requests. Provide commercial solutions whilst minimising risk and financial exposure, with guidance from the HR Business Partners as necessary.
  • Manage the family leave process for all employees (maternity, paternity, shared parental leave).
  • Provide day to day support and advice to the business on policy queries. Work to ensure that the Firms HR policies and procedures are consistently applied.
  • Liaise with line managers to manage the secondments process and ensure that the Firms procedure is always followed.
  • Provide assistance with administration and other such tasks as may be required by stakeholders in the management of their employees, delegating to the HR Assistant where necessary.
  • Take responsibility for delivering the induction to new joiners on a regular basis (with the HR Assistant).
  • Talent & Performance Management
  • Proactively develop effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including Business Managers and Business Services Directors, providing guidance and support as necessary.
  • Support the HR Business Partners in driving the management of talent across all Business Units. Monitor headcount movement within the business units and deal with issues as appropriate, highlighting to the HR Business Partners where required.
  • Support the Head of HR and HR Business Partners in running the performance and salary review processes; gathering performance and salary benchmark data, maintaining accurate records and operating the spreadsheets in roundtable meetings.
  • Work alongside the Head of HR and HR Business Partners to coach and support line managers to draft and implement cogent individual performance improvement plans aimed at improving contribution and minimising the need to enter formal capability processes.
  • Where appropriate, coach and support individuals in improving performance, identifying and assisting in removing barriers and building motivation.
  • HR Projects
  • Contribute to ongoing HR projects and policy development to drive improvement, in line with the Firms HR strategy, ensuring that HR administration and written communication is executed efficiently and accurately.
  • Advise on, support and implement initiatives internally and externally that promote Fieldfishers approach to diversity and support best practice.
  • Key Skills & Experience
  • The necessary drive and commitment to deliver first-rate, proactive and appropriate HR support.
  • Generalist HR experience, ideally gained within a legal and/or professional services organisation, or with a good understanding of professional services/partnerships.
  • Excellent understanding of English Employment Law and evidence of practical application
  • Experience in managing a number of employee relations cases.
  • Excellent administrative skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi task, prioritise and manage conflicting demands.
  • Excellent project management skills; experience in seeing projects through to completion.
  • A confident and professional manner; quickly able to establish credibility with the partners and/or senior managers.
  • Ability to effectively and appropriately challenge and influence using commercial acumen and strong HR knowledge.
  • Diplomacy and pragmatism are essential.
  • A positive and resilient disposition as well as being a strong team player.
  • An awareness of and commitment to complying with our Equality and Diversity Policy and procedures.
  • Strong academics.
  • A good working knowledge of IT packages (MS Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 9.30am - 5.30pm.
