We are delighted to announce an exciting opportunity for two Band 8a Clinical / Counselling Psychologists, due to the development and expansion of the service.About the team:The Traumatic Stress Service (TSS) specialises in the assessment and psychological treatment of trauma survivors who have developed Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and associated comorbidities. A significant proportion of its patients are refugees and asylum seekers, most of who have experienced multiple traumas including rape, torture and violent bereavements. The service also treats survivors of severe accidental and interpersonal trauma, including terrorist attacks, domestic abuse and sexual trafficking as well as ex-military and service personnel.The team is based at Springfield Hospital and is part of South-West London and St George’s NHS Trust, covering the boroughs of Wandsworth, Sutton, Merton, Kingston and Richmond. The team also accepts national referrals.The TSS is at the cutting edge of the development and delivery of psychological therapy for PTSD, complex PTSD and traumatic grief. The primary treatment modalities are trauma-focused CBT and EMDR, embedded within a phased treatment approach. The service also delivers innovative treatments for PTSD including imagery re-scripting, blended CBT/EMDR and time-intensive treatments.An exciting opportunity has arisen for two experienced, skilled and enthusiastic Clinical or Counselling Psychologists to join the team and become involved in both the provision and development of the service.The applicants will possess clinical expertise in trauma-focused psychological therapies. They will have experience of working with victims of complex traumas, including refugee populations. They will be responsible for providing clinical supervision to trainee clinical psychologists and assistant psychologists within the service. They will have a role in contributing to research, audit and user involvement projects within the service. They will also have a role in training and supervising staff in secondary care teams to deliver evidence-based treatments for PTSD.The successful candidates will join a cohesive, well-regarded team of psychologists which offers opportunities to work with clients from highly diverse communities, as well as to receive excellent supervision in trauma-focused treatments.About the role:The post is a permanent post for two qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologists registered with the Health & Care Professions Council and who have at least 18 months post qualification experience. We are particularly interested in recruiting someone with a strong interest and experience of working with people with PTSD and associated difficulties.We also welcome applications from qualified Clinical or Counselling Psychologists who do not have 18 months post qualification experience who can be employed at Band 7 until they achieve the required experience and competencies to meet Band 8a job description.Whilst working as a band 7 the successful applicant will have the opportunity to work one day per week in another service in the Trust, to develop their knowledge and skills. For example, in a local Recovery and Support Team, Early intervention Service, Liaison Psychiatry, Complex Needs Service, Perinatal or Neuropsychiatry team.About the location:Our Trust headquarters is located within the impressive grounds of Springfield University Hospital in Tooting and we also operate in nearly 100 other locations throughout the UK. This is easily accessible via the Northern Line (Tooting Bec Station) and via private transport. The Trust provides subsidised parking fares for all our substantive staff.
