Job Description

Illuminate is delighted to be representing a leading UK Trade Association with a dynamic and commercial mindset. We are supporting them with the recruitment of a group role for a Health, Safety and Environment Manager. You will take responsibility for managing operational safety risks, specifically, health, safety and environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and implementing operationalobjectives and ensuring effective management systems, processes, best practices and compliance. Your overarching focus will drive improvements in safety, environmental management and sustainability practice across the membership and the organisation itself.Responsibilities include:Health and SafetyThe internal-facing part of this role will have responsibility for ensuring group directors and department heads are compliant with the management of health and safety risks. Making sure that risk assessments are current and filed as required. You will alsosupport members on health and safety matters and ensure that they are informed of legislative changes that will impact them. You will have an excellent opportunity to promote best practices in Health & Safety and Organisational Risk Management across the membership.You will also establish policies and procedures to underpin regulatory safety obligations and best practices.Working closely with the facilities team as the expert in safety compliance, you will ensure that line managers, directors and all staff have an appropriate awareness of health and safety practices and obligations as relevant. You will also liaise with thegovernment, the HSE and other stakeholders on behalf of the organisation.EnvironmentDriving improvements in environmental management and sustainability practice within our membership. Developing an understanding of member activities in the area of sustainability and engaging with them through strategic planning and initiatives. You willalso build effective relationships with individuals and agencies at the forefront of sustainability and maintain an up to date knowledge of the sustainability agenda, legislation and best practice guidance to signposted for members.General Responsibilities include

  • Attending internal and external meetings and events as required.
  • Producing reports as required, including management and board reports.
  • Identifying, monitoring, and analysing key metrics for the day-to-day performance of the department
  • Create HSE-related content for publications including newsletters and websites.
  • Managing budgets and forecasts in line with company procedure.
  • Working with members on managing their operational risk around health and safety, environment and sustainability. Exercising a hands-on approach to delivering results for the business and members.
  • Maintaining departmental risk register and contributing to the wider group register as required.
  • Maintain positive and effective relationships with internal departments, shareholders and external business partners and agencies.
What skills and knowledge will you need to be successful
  • IOSH or NEBOSH qualification
  • A good depth of knowledge cross key elements of environmental legislation
  • Experience in dealing with regulatory agencies (HSE, Environment Agency, Councils)
  • Understanding and experience of Safety/Environment Management Systems including ISO4001
  • A clear communicator able to manage and prioritise workload
  • A confident decision maker
  • A pragmatic but structured approach to day to day management of HSE matters, including being hands where necessary.
  • Adept at building relationships with stakeholders
  • Excellent IT Skills
  • Management/supervisory experience
  • Ability to present to a variety of audiences
