Job Description

This is a unique role for a proactive professional to provide information, advice and support on all aspects of Health and Safety in Central Saint Martins (CSM) College. You will build on current good practice, working closely with staff and students acrossa wide range of disciplines in a lively, creative environment. You will also work across the University collaborating with colleagues in the health and safety team on shared issues and projects.Reporting to the Head of Health and Safety (Colleges and SupportServices), your day to day work will be within CSM. You will be based at the Kings Cross site alongside the leadership team and you will need to be able to build strong working relationships with key stakeholders in that team including the Head of TechnicalResources, the Deans and the Director of College Resources and Administration. In addition to providing advice on technical health and safety matters, you will be responsible for developing the Colleges annual health and safety operating plan to ensure thatCSM continues to improve health and safety performance. You will monitor compliance with relevant legislation including creating regular reports on health and safety performance. You will investigate accidents and incidents, take part in audits, undertakeor arrange inspections, consult with Trade Union representatives, oversee risk assessments, provide health and safety training, plan emergency drills and participate in relevant committee meetings.The role requires travel between UAL sites to attend meetingsand support the wider H&S team.Why choose us University of the Arts London (UAL) has an international reputation in art, design, fashion, communication and performing arts, and close to 19,000 students from over 130 countries. UAL also engages in collaborative programmes and projects with external parties some of whom occupy UAL owned/ managed spaces.The health and safety team reports to the University Secretary and Registrar and it providesa trusted source of expertise and support to the University to ensure the health and safety of staff and students, and those affected by what we do.UAL has a total estate exceeding 160,000 m2 spread across 15 sites from Wimbledon in South West London to Hackneyin the North East. UAL also operates 10 art shops and 17 catering outlets based across the Colleges. The University is investing millions of pounds into major construction projects to build new sites for London College of Fashion in Stratford and London Collegeof Communication in Elephant and Castle.Your profileThe successful candidate will have excellent health and safety knowledge and be able to evidence how they have applied that knowledge in the workplace. They will hold a level 5 or 6 H&S Diploma .e.g. NEBOSHor NCRQ, (or equivalent professional qualification) and be at least a graduate member of IOSH working towards Chartered status. Experience of managing health and safety within creative, complex and dynamic environments is desirable.You will be able to demonstrateand provide evidence of ongoing maintenance of professional competence as a Graduate or Chartered member of IOSH.The team aims to work with and coach others in health and safety to build their health and safety competencies rather than adopting a more traditionaltelling style and the post holder will need to follow this approach.
