Head of the Department of Life SciencesFaculty of Natural SciencesImperial College LondonThe Faculty of Natural Sciences wishes to appoint an outstanding individual to lead the Department of Life Sciences at Imperial College London. The Department embraces the full breadth of modern life sciences activity, with a dual location on the main South Kensington campus in London and the Silwood Park postgraduate campus at Ascot ( life-sciences/). It was the top ranked university for research intensity in Biological Sciences in the UK in the last Research Excellence Framework exercise (REF2014), and also ranked top equal in terms of the environment it provides, with a 100% World Leading assessment. The Department teaches two major undergraduate degrees in Biological Sciences, and Biochemistry/Biotechnology, and a wide range of Masters-level courses aligned to our strengths.We are seeking to appoint a successor to the current Head of Department, Professor Anne Dell CBE FRS FMedSci, whose tenure comes to an end on December 31 2021. As Head of the Department, you will provide strategic vision, direction and leadership to the Department, ensuring that our research and teaching programmes remain World-Leading, and that appropriate plans, management and governance structures and practices are in place. You will also ensure the operational sustainability of the Department through income generation and resource management, as well as formulate and implement academic strategy and plans in conjunction with the Dean and Faculty management team.You should have an international reputation in their field of research, evidence of academic leadership and the ability to work collaboratively with members of a multi-disciplinary team and senior colleagues across the College.
