Job Description

This position is accountable for the safeguarding, counselling, PSHE and health & safety department. They are responsible for ensuring the safety of all students, staff and visitors to the school. They will also lead on continuing to develop the wellbeing support programme that we offer to all students and staff. They line manage the Designated Safeguarding Lead and Health and Safety Officer ensuring that all safeguarding and risk assessment policies and procedures are up to date and being carried out effectively. The role has oversight of the counselling team and will ensure that the counselling procedures are inline with TCW policies.As the Head of Safeguarding and Wellbeing you will be responsible and accountable for leading the department and ensuring the following is achieved:1/ Responsible for ensuring the robust safeguarding of all students Line manage Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Be a point of contact for all safeguarding and welfare concerns, advising the DSL in decisions when necessary Deputise for DSL when they are unable to be in the office or are absent Act as the out of hours DSL when required and attend necessary welfare meetings out of term time Ensure welfare policies and procedures are up to date and implemented appropriatelyRegularly quality assure internal safeguarding procedures and conduct internal audits to ensure that TCWs safeguarding provision is in line with OFSTED requirementsConduct and respond to Local Authority audit requestsEnsure that Looked After Children (LAC), Child Protection (CP) and Children in Need (CIN) data is up to date and that our provision meets national standards for these vulnerable groups Complete referrals to Social Care or other agencies when necessary Report and feedback to Assistant head on the efficiency of the Welfare department and providing associated and supportive data Work with Education Support Officers (ESO) and Hub Leads to identify vulnerable students and discuss possible interventions that may be needed Be the Designated Teacher for LAC and Previous LAC students and attend regular associated training Attend PEP meetings and when necessary Annual Reviews and CP conferences Discuss your departments policies and procedures and any innovations you have brought in, when required, to Ofsted and the Board of Trustees 2/ To ensure that TCW is a safe environment for Staff, Students and Visitors Act as the Health and Safety (H&S) Officer Work with members of the H&S team to ensure that all the necessary risk assessments, checks, logs and data are kept up-to-date Lead on innovative ways of improving staff and student welfare and risk assessment in the school Attend referral meetings and be part of the initial risk assessment relating to potential new students, including contact with Safer School Officers and Youth Offending Service to obtain information they may hold on potential new students Maintain a log of which students can/cant attend the same site or in group lessons togetherLiaise with the PSHE lead to ensure that the PSHE schemes of work cover the necessary welfare and health and safety information that will enable students to understand their choices regarding staying safe and looking after their physical and mental health needsFeedback to Teaching and Learning Officers (T&L) when a staff member is not fulfilling their safeguarding duty and oversee support of any identified safeguarding targets that may be included on the improvement plan Support the Headteacher/CEO with investigations into staff allegations Ensure the Single Central Register is up-to-date and fully compliant with guidance Ensure safer recruitment practices are followed throughout the charity Ensure staff have appropriate training in regards to safeguarding and online safety Create, deliver and quality assure specific training to whole school when needed Develop a strong link between the TCW safeguarding team and parents, providing information to parents regarding safeguarding and allowing their voice to contribute to our Welfare policies where appropriate3/ To hold responsibility of the wellbeing of both students and staff Ensure the wellbeing policies are up-to-date and implemented accordingly Meet with counselling department regularly to ensure that students receive a measured and balanced therapeutic provision and that communication remains effective To oversee regular questionnaires and data gathering in relation to wellbeing, welfare and safety of students and staff utilizing this data to inform policies Look at ways to improve the welfare section of the new teacher induction4/ Other Write a half-termly report reviewing the departments work for the Headteacher and Trustees Attend meetings and training as required Person Specification:Essential Qualifications: An honours degree or equivalent professional qualificationExperience of managing a team Strong people management skills with the ability and knowledge to motivate, train, develop, appraise and manage a team Experience of being a Designated Safeguarding Lead Accuracy and high levels of attention to detail Ability to work alone and with initiative Excellent organisational and planning skills and ability to multi-task Adaptable and flexible approach to work Willing to embrace change and challenge processes to improve efficiency Able to manage workloads and prioritise efficiently when needed A team player who is able to develop effective relationships with the team and work in partnership with others Strong administration skills, excellent numeracy, written English and verbal communications skills Personable, professional and courteous in manner A friendly, positive and proactive attitude to work Able to manage stressful environments Able to be discreet and loyal and handle confidential material professionally Experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs and DisabilitiesDesirable Experience of working in a creative environment Experience of working in a charity Teaching experience
