Job Description

HTA is the national independent regulator for organisations that remove, store and use tissue for research, medical treatment, post-mortem examination, teaching and display in public in addition to providing approval for organ and bone marrow donations fromliving people. With the interests of the public and those HTA regulate at the centre of their work, they aim to maintain confidence by ensuring that human tissue is used safely and ethically, with proper consent.Reporting into the Director of Data, Technology & Development, the Head of Policy is an exciting and highly rewarding role, which provides real opportunity for growth and development within an agile organisation regulating a fast-changing sector.This position would be well-suited to an individual who can operate in a strategic leadership capacity, developing a team, whilst also being able to operate in the detail of the subject matter. A background working within health / life sciences and/or regulationwith exposure to working in/around government would be highly advantageous in addition to strong research skills and ability to draft convincing submissions.Some key areas of focus for the Head of Policy position include:

  • Legislative review and proposed amendment to ensure the primary and secondary legislation under which the HTA operates continue to support the safe use of tissues and cells.
  • Review of varying policy surrounding sectors under regulation (removal, storage and use human tissue for research, medical treatment, post-mortem examination, education and training, and display in public) and identification of potential areas for alignment
  • Ensuring legislation and policy stay relevant in a fast-changing landscape, which maintains public trust and confidence
  • Developing policy position on current and emerging matters in the sector e.g. organ donation, xenotransplantation
  • Horizon scanning of industry and operating landscape in short, medium and long term. Identification of potential opportunities and risks
  • Facilitation and co-ordination of topics suitable for round table discussions with key industry stakeholders
