The developing department are consistently striving to develop the arts within the Academy, offering a varied timetable in extra-curricular activities to its array of gifted pupils.The department are currently looking for an innovative drama specialist to continue to support its success and nurture the ever-growing potential of its pupils.KS3 students undertake a variety of activities in lessons and are given the opportunity to performance in end of term concerts and shows. Music and Drama are offered at GCSE and A-level, with strong numbers on both courses.The Music department is a well-resourced curriculum area that delivers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities such as Jazz Band, Choir and African Drumming group. Academic music lessons take place in the music department building which is equipped with a Mac suite, recording studio and multiple practice rooms. Logic and Sibelius software is used from Year 7. GCSE and A-Level uptake is strong with the courses developing the musical skills and interests of students; enabling students to understand and appreciate a range of different kinds of music, across a multitude of cultures and genres.In KS3, all students follow a programme which provides an introduction to music including the elements such as rhythm, pitch and tempo. There is a strong emphasis on music that is relevant to young people including film music, blues and pop music with pupils undertaking performance and composition tasks in each lesson.GCSE and A-level students follow the Edexcel specification.
