Job Description

Can you take our books beyond the page Do you have experience selling and negotiating IP deals to film and TV companies We have the next role for you.The OpportunityThis is a 12-month maternity cover for an exciting role in Penguin Random Houses Media Rights team. Were looking for someone who is passionate about exploiting media opportunities and brilliantly well-connected, with an entrepreneurial and opportunisticoutlook. Youll be responsible for titles across the Penguin Random House portfolio, so youll need to be comfortable working on a variety of projects spanning from childrens classics to bestselling crime series to new literary voices and more.On a day-to-day basis, you might be:

  • Identifying books with potential for adaptation for TV, film and theatre as they come through our acquisition process
  • Working closely to advise on new acquisitions with in-house editorial, sales, marketing and legal teams
  • Researching, planning and pitching our titles and authors for adaptation opportunities
  • Negotiating deals, including auctions, and establishing terms and conditions for rights sales
  • Managing on-going deals with external and internal stakeholders
  • Working closely with individual authors to guide them through deals and the adaptation process
  • Building our network of relationships across the media industry
  • Keeping up to date with on the fast-moving media and entertainment landscape
What youll bringYou dont need to come from a publishing background, but you will need strong contacts within media and entertainment, whether thats production companies, film agencies, studios, scouts or broadcasters. Youll also be up to date on the entertainment sector,demonstrating knowledge of creative and commercial trends as well as copyright legislation.Youll need great negotiation skills, with a proven track record of deals, as well as exceptional communication and relationship building skills to work closely with agents, authors and internal teams.
