In EMEA, Northern Trust Asset Management serves professional investors offers a wide range of investment management capabilities, across active and passive, equities, fixed income and cash management. This includes quant active, sustainable investing, multi-asset,liquidity focused solutions as well as more traditional index management. Capabilities are available through both pooled funds and segregated accounts, with a focus on designing investment strategies to meet the specific needs of investors. NTAM manages thelargest European ESG fund and 5/10 largest ESG index funds globally*. Role: The newly created Index Research Group is responsible for reviewing and analyzing index data for use by the portfolio management teams. The Head of the Index Research Group will assist in setting up the team, creating processes and procedures for index oversight, and partner with the portfolio management teams to ensure index data is timely and accurate. The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Daily benchmark validation for all Equity and Fixed Income benchmarks
  • Monthly and Quarterly Pro-forma validation for all Equity and Fixed Income benchmarks
  • Daily publishing of index change projections for use by PMs
  • Validation of High Risk benchmarks at each index rebalance
  • Liaise with index providers on all data issues and questions
  • Lead reviews of index provider Index Consultations
  • Respond to ESG Index Queries
  • Custom Index and New Product Research, including custom index backtesting
  • Monitors developments and new industry trends in indexing
Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of index investing, index methodologies and data analysis, usually acquired by formal education and related work experience, is required. Analytical and personal computer skills are needed to prepare analysis and reports. The successful candidate will benefit from having:
  • An MBA/Masters degree with concentrations in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science or equivalent required, or Bachelors degree with in-depth relevant experience
  • Expertise in Index Methodologies
  • Experience with relational databases, Python, R, SAS, SQL, Tableau, or version control software preferred
  • Experience using Aladdin preferred
