Job Description

My client is one of the world’s largest and oldest law firms with a history stretching back to the 19th century. They are now a leading global law firm with offices in key business centres across the Americas, Asia and Europe. The firm employs approximately 2000 lawyers. Their London office has a headcount of circa 800.They currently have an opening for a Head of Financial Operations to join their Finance team. Your main responsibilities will include developing strategies; leading and managing the finance team, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and enhancing processes, systems, practices, controls and procedures.In depth knowledge of UK SRA accounting rules, HM Revenue & Customs VAT, tax regulations and other relevant statutory regulations and extensive accounting operational expertise gained at a City law firm will secure you an interview.Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute short and long-term strategies
  • Lead, manage and develop staff
  • Ensure timely, accurate and quality execution of cash receipts and applications, including compliant execution of activity surrounding client accounts
  • Ensure timely, efficient and effective administration of vendor invoices and employee reimbursements, including strategic cash management and accurate recordkeeping
  • Ensure compliance with UK SRA, HM Revenue & Customs VAT, AntiMoney Laundering, tax and other relevant statutory regulations, rules and requirements; lead external audit engagements
  • Oversee Modern Slavery and D&I as it relates to Firm suppliers.
  • Support and advise the office’s COFA Committee on relevant compliance and reporting priorities
  • Ensure exemplary support of assigned satellite office.
  • Ensure an effective control structure, featuring optimal risk and efficiency balances; appropriately manage cyber security.
  • Support office management relative to financial operations, including Managing Partner and Director of Administration, as well as financial and administrative colleagues.
  • Proactively forge strong working relationships with partners, management and colleagues.
  • Proactively recommend and implement process, procedural and policy enhancements.
  • Manage the functions’ financial systems; support technological upgrades and projects
  • Ensure compliance with Firm deadlines and policies
  • Liaise with and support other finance and administrative functions
  • Lead development, implementation and ongoing refinement of training platforms and process documentation and projects
  • Adhere to departmental core values; perform duties with the highest of moral and ethical standards
  • Assign goals, professional development (training/mentoring)
  • Timely addressing of performance issues
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing and transition of assigned staff • Managing assigned staff’s PTO
  • Candidate Profile
  • You will have experience as a Finance Operations Manager gained in a multi-currency Partnership environment, ideally a law firm.
  • You will have proven people management skills.
  • Knowledge of Elite, Aderant or similar PMS is essential.
  • Good knowledge of the Solicitors Accounts Rules, and other statutory requirements, is essential.
