Job Description

Role Context:This is a high responsibility role in M&G and will support M&G achieve its future ambitions. The role holder will work with various senior stakeholders across the group to devise and execute a dynamic prudential regulatory lobbying strategy. The person willneed to be a confident influencer and be able to communicate complex regulatory policy issues in a changing regulatory landscape, providing briefings to senior management to keep them informed of material updates. They will also need to have a firm grasp ofthe Prudential Regulation Authoritys (PRA) approach to policy development, as well as other key bodies, including the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS). Principle Accountabilities:

  • In conjunction with internal stakeholders, identify key prudential regulatory priorities, develop and execute a lobbying strategy for responding to these
  • Establish and maintain strong professional relationships with key stakeholders with relevant stakeholders with the Prudential Policy team at the PRA
  • Acting as the day to day point of contact on prudential regulatory policy with key industry bodies, this will include the Association of British Insurers (ABI), as well as ensure appropriate engagement with key forums including the IAIS
  • Work closely with and support senior internal stakeholders (within the Finance, Regulatory Affairs and Government Affairs teams) - Support senior management in their interactions with key industry forums, preparing materials to support efforts to gain supportfor M&Gs views including developing fact sheets, talking points, and position or briefing papers
  • Monitor proceedings and provide analysis of Policy developments by the PRA and IAIS as well as key industry trade bodies including the ABI order to keep internal stakeholders informed of all relevant developments
  • Review key documentation issued by regulatory bodies, including consultation papers and speeches, providing timely analysis and summaries (including details of any action required in response)
  • Lead M&Gs responses to all relevant regulatory consultation papers
  • Establish and maintain two-way communication with relevant official bodies and stakeholders
  • Ensure M&Gs senior leadership team and Board are informed of key issues and that emerging themes are identified and reported, setting out a clear plan of action in response
Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Detailed knowledge of prudential regulation gained by working within a Regulatory, Legal or Finance function
  • Extensive regulatory experience (ideally gained through work at the regulators and within the industry), including a deep appreciation and understanding of the regulatory environment and the PRAs Policy approach to insurers, understanding their expectationsand priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and both writing and verbal communication skills, including the ability to fully participate where senior stakeholders are present
  • Excellent influencing and negotiating skills, ability to use influence and persuasion to resolve differences to a satisfactory resolution
  • Excellent analytical skills - ability to review and challenge materials produced by colleagues, identify trends from complex data and clearly articulate insights and propose a proportionate response
  • Excellent presentation skills, including the ability to articulate and convey concepts and ideas to Board members and senior management in a clear and compelling manner
  • Adept at nurturing and promoting effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders - highly collaborative with an outward approach, ability to generate a positive outcome with stakeholders, to effectively manage different stakeholdergroups, drive consensus where appropriate, bring people together and diplomatically influence key stakeholder groups using skill and tact, must be able to relate to various audiences well
  • Must be delivery and outcome focused, possessing high levels of resilience and determination, as well as a dynamic individual who demonstrates strong initiative
  • Business acumen - demonstrate good commercial intuitive judgement, reflecting internal and external perspectives
  • Manages own impact effectively to lead and inspire others, demonstrates critical thinking and strong decision-making capability
  • Demonstrates the right attitude and behaviours, which align with M&Gs values and purpose
  • Experience of working in a large and complex global organisation, defining and implementing the regulatory lobbying strategy across multiple jurisdictions
  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent qualifications/experience and/or professional qualification
