Job Description

Your new companyYou will be joining an innovative biotech using cutting edge machine & deep learning approaches to develop the next generation of drugs. As well as working with leaders in the field of data science and drug discovery, youll have access to significant computationalresources as they look at new ways to use large scale data sets and innovative Machine & Deep Learning approaches to streamline the drug discovery & development process.Your new roleYou will be heading up their Bioinformatics team, which includes Data Science and Translational Informatics, providing technical and people leadership as well as a strategic plan about how to further grow the department.A major focus will be leading efforts to develop new bioinformatics and data science approaches and apply these to drug discovery and development, through oversight/management and hands-on development of novel algorithms and ML/DL based models.You will be working closely with wet lab and clinical departments to support wider R&D efforts and driving strategy. This is a high-level role reporting into the CTO.What youll need to succeedAs well as strong communication, organisational and time management skills, you should have:

  • A PhD (or equivalent experience) in bioinformatics, data science, statistics, computer science, biology or a related subject;
  • Hands-on experience with the analysis and interpretation of large scale clinical, biological / omics or drug data sets, with a preference for NGS / genomic / transcriptomics data, eg (bulk or sc) RNA-seq
  • Strong programming/scripting skills in a language such as R, Python, Julia or similar, eg algorithm / package development;
  • A track record of leading data science projects (ideally within drug discovery or clinical development);
  • Very strong Machine / Deep Learning skills, and ideally familiar with pytorch, TensorFlow or similar
  • Good project and people / team management skills, with direct line management a must
Knowledge / experience of pharmaceutical drug discovery and/or development projects is required and a track record of publishing papers ion high-impact journals, or presenting at conferences like NeurIPS is a significant advantage.
