It consists of 120 acres with a lake, wetlands, ancient woodland and extensive tree collection set in a rolling Surrey landscape. It is nationally recognisedfor its bluebells and autumn colour. We welcome over 160,000 visitors a year and are open 7 days a week.Our team of gardeners are multi-skilled, omnicompetent and passionate about the site. No two days are the same. You may be using your chainsaw skills oneday, fixing a fence, leading a tour or using the brush cutter the next to keep the site at its best. What youll be doing As a hands-on Gardener, youll assist in making sure that the arboretum is maintained to a high standard. Youll be passionate and enthusedand knowledgeable about the varied trees within the arboretum. This role will include a range of practical horticultural tasks to develop, enhance and conserve the garden and contribute to the delivery of projects. Youll be helping with hard and soft landscapingand general maintenance of the arboretum. Youll support with the planting and maintenance of trees and shrubs.Youll also support garden volunteers and help them to make the most of their time here. Youll be expected to interact with the public, answeringthe many questions, or help out with gardening workshops, tours and helping set up events when needed.Please also read the full role profile attached to this advertWho were looking for To be successful in this role you should be able to demonstrate the below:Trained as a professional gardener/horticulturalist with a good level of practical experience. RHS Level 2 or equivalent. Have proven practical gardening/horticulture experience, as well as a strong knowledge of plants Confidence to participate in garden activitiesand events Competence with machinery/equipment use and maintenance; including tractors, chainsaws, and pedestrian mowers with accreditation as required for Health and Safety compliance.
