Job Description

Dawson Levy Resourcing are delgihted to be recruiting on behalf of specialist Principal Contractor working in the field of structural strengthening and refurbishment of civil engineering works such as bridges, tunnels, stations and retaining walls.We have secured the Metallic Structures lot as Principal Contractor in Network Rails Southern Region Building & Civils Framework, which will run for between 3 and 8 years. We need to design, plan and execute structural repair schemes to metallic overline bridges, river crossings, footbridges, gantries, etc. Works are expected to vary from simple blast and repaint to complete deck replacements.Framework EstimatorReporting to: Framework DirectorNRs Southern Region Building and Civils Framework is a zero-value framework and work-packages will need to be priced and negotiated. The role is to estimate and negotiate these work packages, including assisting with the quantity surveying of successful contracts, and will involve:

  • Liaising with suppliers and sub-contractors as required to obtain prices, you will have an extensive list of suitable contacts,
  • Producing estimates, including from first principles, producing quotations and completing bills of quantities,
  • Considering various options in terms of the structural solution, access options, material options, to be able to think of innovative solutions,
  • Being able to assess the restrictions and costs of track access,
  • Following up submitted quotations with the client by phone and by attending meetings,
  • Providing Quantity Surveying assistance on successful contracts, a good knowledge of NEC3 will be required.
  • The successful candidate is likely to have been working in the rail industry for a minimum of 5 years, will understand the issues of operating as a Principal Contractor in the rail environment and have experience of estimating civil engineering structures. Experience in the repair of structures is an advantage.
