Job Description

A fantastic opportunity open to all candidates that hold a relevant financial degree or qualification as well as relevant finance experience. The TeamThe Scrutiny Unit is a central team that provides specialist assistance to Select Committees, Joint Committees and Public Bill Committees. The Scrutiny Unit has been established since 2002.You will form part of a small and established team that provides specialist financial and economic analysis, briefing and support for Select Committees scrutiny of expenditure and performance, primarily of government departments and other bodies.The Role You will work closely with committee staff, the Houses library and research service, MPs and auditors to identify and explain financial issues to non- specialist audiences, suggest lines of questioning, assist with inquiry management and help draft committee reports. You will also work with other members of the team to produce helpful briefings, analyses and presentations of government spending.The Candidate requirements

  • Ability to interpret financial information and to identify areas of potential interest or concern to Select Committees.
  • Good understanding and awareness of the public expenditure framework, of the role of Parliament and its Select Committees and the political environment.
  • Good communication skills, including the ability to explain complex issues clearly and succinctly to a lay audience of MPs and staff both orally and in writing. Ability to build and maintain successful working relationships based on authority and professionalism, with a wide range of people, including MPs, House staff and civil servants.
