Executive Chairperson and Member - SeaFisheries Protection Authority The Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (SPFA) is anindependent agency with responsibility for the promotion, detection andenforcement of sea-fisheries and food safety law, the collectionof data onsea-fisheries and food safety and advising the Minister for Agriculture, Foodand the Marine in relation to relevant matters. A vacancy now exists for the full-time executiverole of Chairperson and Member of the Authority. This is a key executivesenior management positionwithin the fisheries regulatory system in Ireland. It is an excitingopportunity for a strong and inspiring leader to contribute to the EU &National compliance and enforcement regulatory environment and to positivelyinfluence the developmentof the seafood sector in Ireland and EU CommonFisheries Policy objectives through effective regulation of sea fisheries andother core functions of SFPA. Reporting to the Oireachtas, the Chairperson willbring vision, strategic leadership and effective managementacross all thefunctions of the SFPA in order to ensure that it discharges its core regulatoryfunctions effectively and maximises its impact on the future sustainability ofthe sector. The role involves promoting a culture of compliance with andenforcement ofEU & National fisheries legislation and seafood safetyprocedures. The post holder will develop effective internal and externalstakeholder relationships and engage strategically with senior decision-makersin order to help shape current and future regulatorycompliance andenforcement. The executive Chairperson will also drive outcome focused deliveryand accountability across the SFPA. The person will also carry out the duties of Memberinvolving: Leading the Authoritys enforcement functions todeliver efficientand effective enforcement of sea-fisheries and food-safetylaw;Driving the development of an efficient andeffective approach to service delivery, with particular emphasis on exploitingthe potential of information technology and outreach to regional officerstoensure delivery of consistent and quality services and establishing qualityassurance and evaluation systems that measure service effectiveness.The successful candidate will ideally have:A successful executive career, at an appropriatelysenior level, in arelevant organisation preferably involving experience in aregulatory environment context;A proven record of achievement at an appropriatelysenior level that demonstrates the necessary vision, leadership and managementskills, and personal resilience;A detailedknowledge of the technical, legal,economic and regulatory issues critical to the successful regulation ofsea-fisheries and food safety in Ireland or the ability to quickly acquiresame;A good knowledge and understanding of the Irishand International sea-fisheriesand food safety sectors and of trends anddevelopments in these sectors.Ifyou feel you would benefit from a confidential discussion about thisopportunity, please contact Eamonn Purcell on eamonn.purcell@publicjobs.ieTheclosing date for receipt of applicationsis Thursday, 19th August, 2021 at 3pm.
