Job Description

About UsDS Smiths Purpose is Redefining Packaging for a Changing World. In 2020, we launched our Now & Next Sustainability Strategy, with a focus on the circular economy. In 2021, we committed to a 1.5°C science-based target for 2030 and to reach Net Zero by2050. In 2022, we established a new ESG (environmental, social, governance) Reporting Function in Group Finance to deliver effective non-financial reporting. This is an exciting opportunity to play a part in developing a new function at a company leading thetransition to the circular economy.About the roleWe are currently searching for an experienced ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) Governance Manger to join our ESG Reporting team in Group Finance.You will be responsible for continuously developing a well-controlled reporting environment for the production of our non-financial disclosures. You will ensure that the infrastructure (knowledge, skills and systems) used to deliver timely and accurate datamatures in keeping with regulatory change and industry best practice, from site-level data input to the consolidation of reported data to transition towards reasonable assurance over the coming yearsYou will act as the lead contact with our Independent Assurance Provider, developing the depth and breadth of our independent assurance programme, implementing responses to assurance insights and observations and continuously challenging the rigour and robustnessof ESG assurance.The role demands strong analytical, quantitative, and interpersonal skills; particularly as you engage those contributing to ESG reporting, particularly at the site-level, on the importance of high-quality ESG data.Your remit will include but not limited to:

  • Governance and Assurance - ensuring effective auditability and accuracy of ESG data
  • System - building a reliable ESG data analysis, storage, and reporting tool
  • Business Partnering - training others on producing high-quality ESG information
About you
  • A Masters-level degree in finance, sustainability, engineering or similar
  • Experience in ESG reporting, ideally in manufacturing, either in-house or as a consultant
  • Familiarity with audit / assurance of non-financial information, e.g., ISAE 3000 / 3410
  • Confident working independently and with stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Able to operationalise controls over large datasets to continuously improve data quality
  • Be tenacious, challenging and responsive with a meticulous and thorough approach
