Job Description

Environmental Health Officer- Contact TracingThe Environment Department, Food and Safety Team£27.15-£33.00per hour(On going Temporary Post)Reports to:Interim Head of Environmental HealthRole purposeP1 critical service which aims to protect the health, safety and welfare of residents, visitors and employee for this local council through the enforcement of food hygiene, food standards, infectious diseases and health and safety standards in commercial premises and work activities. To protect the health of consumers through the enforcement of food hygiene and food standards, including allergens in commercial premises.The post is required to ensure that the Council can effectively ensure all other food and safety functions can be covered, and is not exhaustive to the following demands:" COVID-19 safe interventions and business advice during the national emergency and recovery phase." Undertake programmed food hygiene/standards inspections in accordance with the FSA code of practice" Respond to service requests relating to food complaints and premises hygiene" Business support and liaison" Contact Tracing" Track and trace enforcementTo undertake consistent, proportionate, targeted, accountable and transparent enforcement action, in accordance with best practice advice and guidance and enforcement policies, to resolve any identified non-compliances. This may include seizing food products, closure of food business, preparing and serving statutory notices, simple cautions and other legal documents.To properly handle evidence, records and data to ensure that confidentiality, continuity, evidence integrity, data quality, data protection and requests for information requirements are observed. And instigate all necessary legal action in line with Councils policies, including the preparation and presentation of evidence at Court and Tribunals.Respond to correspondence and maintain up to date records on the computer systems and files of inspections and other visits made and action taken to ensure a complete record of cases is maintained in the event of later enquiries, complaints or subsequent legal action.Meet performance targets for proactive and reactive work.Undertake projects and initiatives to improve the delivery of the service. These projects may reflect the impact of the wider environmental agenda.To provide quality, timely and accurate professional advice, guidance and information about any work matter, to customers or colleagues, members of the public, businesses, solicitors and other professionals.Attend internal and external meetings and Committees of the Councils when required.Ensure effective liaison is maintained with other relevant colleagues internally within the Council about matters relating to work within their areas.Become familiar with, and work in accordance with Council policies, procedures, protocols, processes, risk assessments and techniques relevant to the job.To take a flexible approach to duties outside of normal office hours including weekends for example to; monitor events, inspect premises where access is not available during normal working hours; investigate outbreaks of legionnaires disease, deal with an emergency etc.Attitude MattersYour skills and ability are important however, we recruit as much for attitude as we do experience.We are looking for people who have the following attributes:
