Energy Transition Project ManagerWe are seeking an experienced project manager with experience of working within research oriented projects, and with a good understanding of the energy transition challenge and an appreciation of all the elements of the energy sector across the technologies, markets, policies and regulations that are driving this change.Many of our projects are commercial or technical research and development projects into whole energy systems. There will be a particular focus on Project Managing our flagship £3m Rewire-NW project, one of Innovate UKs Detailed Designs for Smart Local Energy Systems projects.In addition, the Energy Transition Project Manager will help shape the project management function within the organisation to support all current and future projects. We are looking for someone who will combine standard PM tools, frameworks and experience to streamline, harmonise and standardise the way in which projects are delivered within Pure Leapfrog.DutiesRewire-NW Project: Project management - Enhance and maintain the project management framework. Project Reporting, Budget & Claims Management - Collect and collate project metrics such as inputs, outputs, time and money from partners for internal and funder reporting. Work with our Finance Officer to ensure timely and accurate claims are made to funders. Project Coordination & Delivery - Keep work package leads accountable, monitoring milestones and deliverables, and anticipating issues. Help to organise regular work package and project meetings as necessary in order to maintain momentum and partner engagement. Collaboration - Contribute to meetings beyond a pure PM scope, offering your knowledge and experience to help shape the ideas, debate and approach to work within work packages. Project Progress & Risk Management - Update and maintain the risk register and monitor progress against forecast, updating the project plan. Stakeholder management - Maintain and enhance project stakeholder directory. Keep stakeholders up to date with project progress, developments and opportunities, including all of the project partners and wider project stakeholders. UKRI Interface - Coordinate with the project Monitoring Officer and UKRI technical lead. Arrange Quarterly Review meetings with Monitoring Officer and other relevant UKRI personnel, and lead on preparing materials for them. Exploitation - Engage in internal discussion around options to exploit project outputs for new project or commercial opportunities.Wider duties Review and standardise how all projects are designed, run and monitored throughout the organisation. Work with our Financial Controller and Head of R&D to align project cash flow with charity accounts. Contribute to the exploration and development of new opportunities and new bids. Support in response to government consultations and minor advocacy work. Be a key influencer in contributing to companywide discussions on all areas of our work, and generally follow relevant sector developments, news and opportunities within the sustainability, carbon, and energy systems sectors.Person SpecificationWe are looking for a committed and passionate climate aware candidate, who is self-starting, motivated, used to working as part of a broad team, driven by their work being impactful and beneficial to society. Someone who has a good understanding of the net-zero challenge and ideas on how to get there.It is essential that: You have a degree, or significant career experience, in a subject that is relevant to our activities and mission - such as Sustainability, Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Economics etc. You have at least 5 years experience in low carbon technologies, renewable energy or energy systems/value chain related work. This can be from a technical, financial or commercial perspective, but candidates that can demonstrate a wide range of experience will be preferred. You are a strong project manager with a relevant qualification and at least five years experience. You have experience of managing multi stakeholder and multi partner projects, large budget projects (£1m plus), and working with national/supranational level funders such as Local Authority, Innovate UK/UKRI, Government departments etc. You are methodical, have an attention to detail, and take pride in your work.It is desirable that: You have an understanding of project economics and finance, value propositioning and business modelling. You have a good understanding of energy technologies, markets and regulations and have some understanding of carbon mitigation, reduction, and offsetting. You understand what social impact is, and have an understanding of issues such as fuel poverty, economic deprivation and digital exclusion.LocationThis position will be flexible/working from home initially, moving to part-time, or full time office based towards the end of this year or beginning of next. The future office location will be somewhere in the North West (Liverpool/Warrington/Manchester tbc) so commutable distance for 2-3 days a week is a preference.
